Roles & Responsibilities
Reporting Lines
The Animal Health and Production Expert will work under the direct supervision of the FAOR Egypt (Day-to-Day Manager), and the overall supervision of the ADG/Regional Representative for the Regional Office of the Near East and Nort Africa (RNE). S/he will work in collaboration with technical and operational teams in-country and at the RNE.
Technical Focus
Contribute to the effective delivery of the FAO Egypt country program by performing technical and project management tasks related to animal health and production and One Health elements of the country programme.
Tasks and responsibilities
1. Strategic and technical role on Animal Health and Production within the country programme
Contribute to programme design and strategic discussions within the area of animal health and production;
Provide technical advice, guidance and support to animal health and production components in projects within the FAO Egypt programme portfolio;
Update the FAO Egypt teams of policies and developments in the livestock, animal health and One Health;
Develop and maintain effective partnerships and linkages with relevant ministries and stakeholders in the animal health sector and one health space;
Lead resource mobilization efforts in FAO Egypt in technical areas relevant to the livestock sector (animal health and production);
Coordinate with HQ and RNE technical officers to promote sustainable livestock development through the country program;
2. Serve as Coordinator for all animal health and livestock production projects within the FAO Egypt portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Coordinate and provide day-to-day guidance to other staff working on the assigned project;
Contribute to the preparation of annual work plans in collaboration with the projects teams;
Coordinate and oversee the implementation of project activities in accordance with the work plans and project objectives and harmonise implementation across selected governorates;
Establish and act as ex officio member the Projects Steering committee;
Support the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact, feasibility, and scalability of projects interventions;
Lead the analysis of projects data and contribute to the development of policy briefs, technical notes, and other evidence-based recommendations;
Facilitate the development of procurement plans in collaboration with responsible project personnels;
Conduct regular field visits to monitor projects implementation and progress;
Organize and lead regular coordination meetings with projects personnel to ensure consistent communication and alignment of activities;
Lead and coordinate key projects events at both the national and governorate levels, including inception meetings, workshops, stakeholder consultations, field data collection activities, and in-person and virtual trainings;
Provide timely feedback and clarifications to inquiries received from projects teams, FAO officers, governments counterparts, and local institutions;
Provide regular feedback to the FAOR including detailed progress and meeting reports according to the projects needs, results of the pilots and lessons learned;
Review and finalise knowledge products and reports related the projects activities and submit for review and clearance;
In collaboration with the communication team and the projects teams, contribute to enhancing projects visibility through documentation and dissemination of key achievements and milestones;
Perform other duties as may be required.
Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum Requirements
Advanced degree in veterinary sciences, animal production and related fields;
At least seven years of relevant experience in planning and implementing sustainable livestock and agricultural development projects and programmes;
Working knowledge (level C) in the English and Arabic languages;
National of Egypt.
