Roles & Responsibilities

Design Leadership (Architecture & ID)

  • Lead and coordinate architectural and interior design across all stages (Concept, Schematic, Detailed Design, IFC, Shop Drawings, As-Built).
  • Own the design brief, project design standards, and the management of design changes (change control).
  • Review and approve drawings, specifications, mock-ups, and material submittals-including joinery, finishes, fixtures, lighting, signage/wayfinding, and bespoke elements.
  • Ensure human-centric design: functionality, accessibility, acoustics, lighting, ergonomics, and universal design principles.
  • Drive value engineering while protecting design intent and operational performance.
  • Manage design interfaces with MEP, structural, façade, landscape, security/ICT, and specialty consultants (kitchen/laundry, AV, medical planning, etc.).
  • Oversee BIM execution (BEP, LOD, coordination/clash detection) and digital design reviews.

Sustainability Management

  • Define the project sustainability vision, targets, and roadmap; lead delivery of GSAS/LEED and client sustainability goals.
  • Coordinate energy, water, and carbon strategies; oversee modeling (EUI, WUI, daylighting, thermal comfort, embodied carbon).
  • Integrate circularity and healthy materials principles (low-VOC, EPDs, recycled content) into ID/architectural specifications.
  • Manage sustainability submittals, evidence collection, and audits through design and construction.
  • Champion commissioning for performance (Cx/RCx), post-occupancy evaluation, and performance verification.

Authority & Compliance (Qatar)

  • Plan and secure approvals from relevant authorities (e.g., MME/UPDA, QCDD, Ashghal, municipalities, utility providers, and project-specific master developers).
  • Ensure compliance with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), fire & life safety requirements, and applicable international codes/standards.
  • Prepare/coordinate statutory packages, pre-approvals, NOCs, and close-out documentation.

Project & Stakeholder Management

  • Establish design schedules, deliverables matrices, and dependencies; manage risks, issues, and assumptions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary meetings (IDCs, designer-of-record workshops, VE sessions).
  • Interface with client reps, cost consultants, PMC, main contractors, and specialist suppliers to ensure quality, cost, and schedule adherence.
  • Provide clear reporting (dashboards, progress, risks, decisions) to senior leadership.

Quality, HSE & Handover

  • Enforce QA/QC processes (technical reviews, NCR prevention, mock-up sign-offs, factory visits).
  • Coordinate site inspections for architectural/ID finishes and sustainability credits during construction.
  • Manage snagging/De-snagging, O&M manuals, training, and as-built verification to achieve timely completion and smooth handover.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: BSc in Architecture.
  • Certification: Valid UPDA Grade A certificate.
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in the same position within the State of Qatar.
  • Language: Fluent in Arabic (spoken and written) and proficient in English.

Technical Proficiency

  • Comprehensive command of architectural and interior design delivery on complex assets (e.g., hospitality, mixed-use, healthcare, education, commercial).
  • Proven track record achieving GSAS and/or LEED targets.
  • Strong knowledge of Qatar authority processes (QCDD, municipalities, utilities) and QCS.
  • BIM-led coordination (Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360/ACC), MS Project/Primavera for design schedules, and collaboration tools.
  • Contractual literacy (design scopes, change control, submittals, shop-drawing workflows).

Preferred

  • Experience with embodied carbon accounting, LCA tools, and material databases (EPDs).
  • Portfolio demonstrating high-end ID/fit-out and premium finishes.
  • Experience with commissioning management and post-occupancy evaluation.

Key Competencies

  • Leadership & team mentoring.
  • Stakeholder influence & client-facing communication (Arabic & English).
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making under time and cost constraints.
