Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Thickness Verification: Use a calibrated gauge to consistently measure the depth of the asphalt mat behind the paver to ensure it is at the specified thickness.
- Quality Monitoring: Report any inconsistencies in thickness or other quality issues to the paver operator and Foreman immediately so adjustments can be made.
- Temperature Control: Monitor the temperature of the asphalt mix to ensure it is within the correct range for proper compaction and bonding.
- Communication: Maintain clear and constant communication with the paver operator, roller operator, and Foreman to coordinate a seamless paving process.
- Safety Adherence: Comply with all site-specific health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, always wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Documentation: Assist in keeping records of asphalt thickness, temperatures, and other relevant job site data as required.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Experience:
A minimum of 1-2 years of direct experience as a Gaugeman or in a similar quality control role on an asphalt paving crew.
Familiarity with hot mix asphalt paving operations. - Skills:
Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for quality.
Basic mathematical skills for reading measurements.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A high level of responsibility and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
