Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Downe House Muscat is seeking an exceptional Assistant Head-Teaching and Learning (Secondary School) to join our senior leadership team from August 2026. This is a key strategic role, reporting directly to the Principal, and includes a teaching commitment. The successful candidate will lead teaching and learning across the secondary phase, driving a culture of excellence that reflects the Downe House ethos and high standards.
The role requires a deep understanding of the academic and developmental needs of students across Key Stage 3, IGCSE and A Level. While previous experience with the Omani GED is not essential, the post holder must demonstrate the capacity and willingness to quickly develop a secure understanding of its structure, expectations and requirements. A clear appreciation of transition points within the secondary school along with the pastoral and academic needs that accompany them is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide senior leadership for teaching and learning across the secondary school, ensuring high expectations and consistent standards.
Lead, support and inspire staff in developing excellent classroom practice rooted in research-informed approaches.
Model the Downe House standards of excellence in teaching, learning, assessment and feedback.
Work collaboratively with senior leaders, including the Assistant Head: Data and Reporting, to ensure student progress data informs teaching and learning effectively.
Oversee key areas of provision including lesson quality, curriculum implementation, planning and assessment.
Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation, strategic planning and school improvement.
Maintain a teaching load, demonstrating consistently high standards of practice and professional conduct.
Promote a reflective, ambitious and supportive professional culture across the secondary school.
