Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Assistant Human Rights Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assist with analysis of specific cases as well as human rights and protection trends in the OPT based on international human rights and humanitarian law.
  • Support engagement with representatives of international, Palestinian and Israeli NGOs, of civil society at large and individuals on matters concerning the promotion and the protection of human rights.
  • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides inputs through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
  • Maintains awareness of current human rights issues, to include relevant political and legal developments in the OPT.
  • Researches and collects information pertaining to violations of international human rights and humanitarian law by all duty bearers matters, including their gender dimensions from a variety of data sources (e.g., communications, publications, the press) to keep abreast of issues/events and provide up-to-date information.
  • Drafts a variety of inputs to reports and correspondence relating to human rights matters.
  • Participates with other HROs in discussions with relevant authorities and other influential actors with the aim of stopping or preventing human rights violations or seeks other remedial action by the authorities to prevent similar violations occurring in the future.
  • Assists his/her supervisor in liaising with government, NHRI, NGOs, Civil Society organizations, UN agencies and other partners to exchange information, monitor and follow-up on developments affectingthe human rights situation, and for the referral of cases, with special attention to vulnerable groups.
  • Prepares preliminary versions of speeches, presentations and communications issued by the Head of Gaza Sub-office.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
