Assistant Professor in Cybersecurity

Muscat University

This is a predominantly teaching-focused position to manage and support delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, foundation, and executive programs. Applicants should demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates with administrative experience. The successful candidate is expected to:

• Teach Modules: Deliver Modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Cybersecurity and Cyber Forensics. The normal teaching load is 3-4 modules per semester (2 semesters per academic year).
• Supervise Projects: Oversee undergraduate and postgraduate projects and dissertations, ensuring students receive guidance on their research methodologies and outcomes.
• Engagement in Research: Actively participate in scholarly research activities that lead to publications in peer reviewed, indexed, and ranked international journals and Conference within the field of Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics that contributes to the University research output and enhances its academic reputation.
• Collaborate for Grants: Initiate and develop research collaborations, write National and International research grant applications which enhance the university funding and research capabilities.
• Curriculum Development: Contribute significantly to design and development of new academic programs and curriculum.
• Community Engagement: Actively participate in service activities within the university and across professional and local communities for promoting the significance of Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics.

Educational Qualification:

• Educational Qualifications: A PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related area from an internationally recognized university.
• Certifications: Professional certifications such as those from SANS (e.g., GIAC Certified Incident Handler, GIAC Penetration Tester); CISSP, CEH, CISM, etc are preferred, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Experience & Requirements:

The Department invites applications from qualified candidates for full-time faculty positions in the Cybersecurity and Cyber Forensics program. The position requires:

• Educational Qualifications: A PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a or a closely related field from an internationally recognized university.
• Specialization Areas: Expertise in one or more of the following areas is required: cybersecurity fundamentals, network and system security, ethical hacking, penetration testing, digital forensics, malware analysis, incident response, secure software and application security, cloud and IoT security, cryptography, and cyber risk management.
• Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience in teaching cybersecurity-related courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with a proven ability to supervise student research projects effectively.
• Research Engagement: Active involvement in research within their areas of specialization, showing intellectual engagement with current trends and challenges in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics.
• Industry Experience: Preference will be given to a candidate with relevant industry experience that complements their academic qualifications.
• Practical Skills: Candidates should possess necessary practical computing skills relevant to their areas of expertise.
• Certifications: Professional certifications are preferred, such as SANS/GIAC credentials (e.g., GIAC Certified Incident Handler and GIAC Penetration Tester), CISSP, CEH, and CISM, as they demonstrate strong professional competence and a commitment to continuous professional development.
• Community Participation: Evidence of active participation in university, professional, and local community initiatives related to Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics.
