Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
S/he will be responsible for ensuring that curriculum management and enhancement activities comply with the required standards of the Omani accreditation authorities, such as the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA). In addition to teaching, the post-holder will contribute to the supervision of UG final-year projects, PG dissertations, and research-related activities.
The candidate must hold a PhD in maritime transport to be appointed to the rank of Assistant Professor. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Higher Education (HE) teaching, preferably in the GCC region, is required.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality teaching experience on the Maritime Transport and Logistics Management modules to the undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Construct, plan, and assess student assignments.
- Liaise with the Faculty Dean on all student matters, including timetabling, academic, and technical support.
- Undertake the role of Academic Advisor/Personal Tutor.
- Undertake research and scholarly activity with a view to publishing in quality international academic journals.
- Engage with external maritime and logistics bodies and industry to enrich the student experience, including visiting students on industrial placements.
- Engage with the external community and stakeholders to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda
- Participate in university meetings and events, including Board of Examiners, Programme Reviews, Planning and Monitoring Committees, and Staff/Student Liaison.
- Maintain flexible working patterns which may include some evening and weekend work in support of Programme/Faculty/University business.
- Actively engage with businesses, professional bodies, port authorities, and shipping companies; organize student outreach and invite industry speakers to enhance student experience.
- Any other duties as deemed necessary by the Dean
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies:
- Master's in Sustainable Shipping, Maritime Transport, Environmental Management, or a closely related area for Lecturer rank. PhD (or equivalent) in Maritime Transport, Shipping, or a closely related field. Professional qualifications and/or memberships in recognized bodies (e.g., Nautical Institute, CILT UK, or an international equivalent) for the Assistant Professor rank.
- Ability to communicate with clarity on complex & conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge & understanding, and to peers, using high-level skills & a range of media.
- Ability to think critically and promote innovation and creativity.
- Demonstrates competencies, core behaviors, and supplementary behaviors that support and promote the University s core values.
- Committed to ensuring a high-quality student experience.
- One to two years of experience in teaching modules in Maritime Transport or Shipping in Higher Education. Experience in the Omani and GCC HE environments. Strong links to the maritime industry, ports, and shipping companies. Academic accreditation or quality assurance experiences.
