Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Assistant Quality Manager in a high-pressure gas cylinder manufacturing company is responsible for supporting the Quality Manager in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure all products meet stringent safety, regulatory, and industry-specific standards, such as ISO 9001 and ASME Section VIII.


Core Responsibilities:


• Policy and Procedure Implementation: Assist in developing, documenting, and implementing quality

assurance policies, procedures, and work instructions relevant to the manufacturing of high-pressure

gas cylinders.

• Inspections and Testing: Oversee and participate in the inspection and testing of incoming raw

materials (e.g., raw steel tubes), in-process components, and finished high pressure gas cylinders to

ensure compliance with quality specifications and drawings. This includes witnessing all applicable

testing, such as Hardness, NDT (Non-Destructive Testing), Hydrotesting, and Final inspections.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all production and quality control processes adhere to national and

international standards and regulations, including specific pressure vessel, CNG & Industrial application

cylinders codes like ASME, DOT, TPED, PED, ADR, ISO, ECR and other international standards and liaise

with third-party inspection agency / auditors as required.

• Team Supervision and Training: Supervise and provide guidance and training to QA/QC inspectors and

production staff on quality control procedures, best practices, and the proper use of measuring tools

and equipment (e.g., Calipers, Screw gauges etc.)

• Issue Resolution and Corrective Action: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, QA, R&D)

to identify quality issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement effective corrective and

preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve non-conformities and customer complaints.

• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all inspections, testing activities, nonconformities, and quality data. Prepare detailed quality reports and present key performance

indicators (KPIs) and improvement initiatives to senior management.

• Audit Management: Plan and conduct periodic internal audits, ensure timely closure of findings, and

support preparation for external audits (regulatory, certification, and customer) to maintain

compliance with standards such as ISO 9001.

• Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives using quality management

methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to enhance product reliability, efficiency, and overall quality

performance.


Desired Candidate Profile


• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Quality Management, or a related

engineering field is required.

Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in quality assurance/control, preferably within a

CNG or Industrial Cylinder manufacturing company / heavy manufacturing or pressure vessel/piping

environment.

• Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, API Q1, etc.) and

the ability to interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and relevant industry codes and standards.

• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in statistical

process control (SPC) and data analysis.


Soft Skills:


Strong attention to detail, excellent communication (verbal and written), leadership, and

team management skills for following

1. Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 9001:2015 QMS and related standards (ISO 14001, ISO

45001, etc.) across departments.

2. Ensure document control, change management, and alignment of all procedures (SOPs, work

instructions, process sheets, and inspection plans).

3. Conduct management review meetings (MRMs), prepare KPI dashboards, and monitor action-plan

effectiveness.

4. Lead internal audits and coordinate external audits (third-party, customer, or certification bodies).

5. Monitor the line process and final inspection of finished products, co-ordinate with line engineers

6. Review and approve inspection and test plans (ITP), control plans, and process flow diagrams.

7. Validate and maintain gauges, measuring instruments, and calibration systems.

8. Ensure compliance with technical drawings, tolerances, and international standards (e.g., ISO 9809,

ISO 11439, TPED /ADR / TPER / DOT etc.).

9. Supervise QA/QC engineers, inspectors, and NDT personnel; allocate daily tasks and monitor

performance.

10. Guide junior staff on inspection methods at every process stage, standard clarification, problem

solving, and root-cause analysis (RCA).
