Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsible for fire suppression, rescue, and medical emergencies at assigned duty location.

  • Ensure the training and readiness of personnel to respond to emergency situations.
  • Performs all required proficiency training.
  • Leads personnel during emergency and non-emergency operations.
  • Maintain adequate resources and ensure they are maintained in proper operation and in a mission-ready state at all times.
  • Participates in daily roll call before the start of shift and any meetings requested by the Fire Chief or Designee.
  • Maintains personnel shift rosters to ensure manning is equal to or greater than minimum manning as established within the departmental SOP.
  • Create and maintain weekly and monthly reports in support of activities.
  • Conducts internal training and participates in customer training events under the direction of the Aviation Safety Manager and the Flight Operations Manager.
  • Ability to lead in potentially dangerous situations and make quick and sound decisions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the customer in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to quickly perform and direct all functions in difficult and hazardous situations, without hesitation.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply instructions and communicate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Ability to learn, apply and teach aircraft rescue and firefighting techniques and practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and withstand very hazardous conditions.
  • Reports to the Fire Chief or his Designee.
  • Acts as the Senior Fire Officer (SFO) when Chief Officers are not available.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief, Assistant Chiefs, or Station Captains of the Fire Department.

Education

  • Associate degree or higher
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
    • International Fire Service Accreditation Congress certification (IFSAC), DoD and/or ProBoard required.

    • Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
    • Apparatus Driver Operator ARFF
    • Apparatus Driver Operator Pumper
    • Apparatus Driver Operator MWS
    • Public Telecommunicator I and II
    • Fire Officer I
    • Fire Inspector I
    • Fire Instructor I
    • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800
    • CPR/AED
    • Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) issued by a State Agency, or the National Registry.
  • Minimum of 5 years firefighting experience in a civilian or military firefighting role.
  • Considerable knowledge of exit and safety procedures of various military and civilian rotary wing aircraft, and structural fire/alarm detection / suppression systems. Expert knowledge of aircraft rescue and firefighting techniques, practices, and equipment, as well as first aid and CPR.
  • As part of the selection process, a physical will be conducted. Candidates must have normal color discrimination, visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye, 20/30 in the other eye and not more than 20/200, each eye, uncorrected.
  • Possesses a valid driver s license.
