The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE), known as Awqaf, is a UAE government authority established by Law No. 34 of 2006, issued on 9 October 2006 by the late H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The law amended the preceding Law No. 29 of 1999 and formally constituted GAIAE as an independent legal authority. The authority reports directly to the Cabinet, and is required to submit periodic reports to the Cabinet covering its performance, activities, and progress in implementing its defined objectives.
