Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain the Banner database environment, including installation, updates, and configuration.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and implement solutions proactively to maintain data integrity.
  • Support migration and upgrades of the Banner system and associated databases.
  • Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive information and ensure compliance with institutional policies.
  • Collaborate with functional teams to enhance the Banner system capabilities and support user needs.
  • Document database processes and maintain records of configurations and changes.
  • Stay updated with Banner application updates, patches, and best practices.
    • Minimum 10 years hands-on with strong experience as Oracle and SQL Server DBA and handling Ellucian Banner Student Information System database.
    • Database Management Systems (DBMS): Proficiency in popular DBMSs like Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
    • SQL and Query Optimization: Strong SQL skills for querying databases and understanding optimization techniques.
    • Backup and Recovery: Knowledge of backup strategies, disaster recovery planning, and tools for data restoration.
    • Performance Tuning: Ability to analyze and improve database performance through indexing, query optimization, and resource allocation.
    • Security Management: Understanding of database security practices, user roles, permissions, and data encryption.
    • Data Modelling and Design: Skills in designing normalized database schemas and understanding data relationships.
    • Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python, PowerShell) to automate tasks.
    • Replication and Clustering: Knowledge of database replication, high availability solutions, and clustering technologies.
    • Cloud Database Management: Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Oracle) and managing databases in cloud environments.
    • Ellucian Banner (version 9) Student Information System Administration and Database management - installation, configurations, ORDS API s ,Access management, Ethos Identity Services, integration with other systems, including upgrades, patching.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum 10 years hands-on with strong experience as Oracle and SQL Server DBA and handling Ellucian Banner Student Information System database.
