Roles & Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION :

A Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and other materials. This role involves interpreting blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, and using various hand and power tools to complete projects in accordance with specifications and building codes.

Key Responsibilities:

Carpentry Work:

1. Construct and install wooden structures, frameworks, partitions, and fixtures, such as doors, windows, cabinets, and stairs.

2. Repair or replace damaged or deteriorated woodwork, including floors, walls, and trim.

Measurement and Cutting:

1. Measure and mark materials according to project plans and specifications.

2. Cut and shape materials using hand tools, power saws, and other cutting equipment.

Assembly and Installation:

1. Assemble and fit components together to create finished structures or fixtures.

2. Install finished woodwork, hardware, and accessories, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.

Finishing Work:

1. Sand, stain, paint, or varnish wood surfaces to achieve desired finish and appearance.

2. Apply sealants or protective coatings to protect wood from moisture, weather, and wear.

Repair and Maintenance:

1. Inspect existing structures for damage or wear and perform repairs or replacements as needed.

2. Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and perform routine maintenance tasks.

Safety Compliance:

1. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines on construction sites.

2. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.

Collaboration:

1. Coordinate with other construction team members, including architects, engineers, and other tradespeople, to complete projects.

2. Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to ensure project goals are met.

Documentation:

1. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including materials used, labor hours, and project progress.

2. Complete and submit work orders, inspection reports, and project documentation as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program or vocational training is preferred.

Proven 2-4 years of experience as a Carpenter or in a similar role.

Knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.

Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.

Strong measurement and mathematical skills.

Attention to detail and accuracy in carpentry work.

Physical fitness for lifting, carrying, and maneuvering materials.

Working Conditions:

Carpenters work indoors and outdoors, depending on the project requirements.

The role may involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or in hot/cold environments.
