About Etijah:

Youth and Development Consultancy Institute Etijah is a non-profit organization specializing in developing, improving, and disseminating development methodologies in youth and community development.

Our role is to provide youth with direct access to unconditional participation by providing practical tools and models for developing community-wide initiatives.

Project Background:

The Safe Spaces Project for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response was established to address the increasing protection risks faced by refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls in urban Egypt, particularly in densely populated areas such as Cairo and Alexandria. Prolonged displacement, conflict, and economic hardship have heightened exposure to GBV, social isolation, and limited access to reliable protection and support services. Newly arrived refugees especially Sudanese women and adolescent girls often encounter additional barriers including lack of information, stigma, and fear of seeking assistance.

In this context, the project provides integrated GBV prevention and response services through safe, accessible, and women-friendly spaces that serve as trusted entry points for confidential support, psychosocial services, referrals, and community engagement activities. The intervention follows a survivor-centered and community-based approach aligned with international GBV standards, prioritizing safety, dignity, and informed consent. By combining case management, psychosocial support, and awareness-raising initiatives, the Safe Spaces Project aims to strengthen protective environments, enhance access to quality services, and promote safer and more supportive communities for refugee and vulnerable women and girls.
