Catalyst Handling Technician

The Catalyst Handling Technician is responsible for safely performing catalyst loading, unloading, screening, and vessel entry activities inside reactors, reformers, vessels, and towers under nitrogen-inserted environments.

Catalyst Operations

• Perform catalyst loading/unloading in reactors and vessels under nitrogen atmosphere.
• Handle catalyst materials such as:
• Reforming catalyst
• Hydrotreating catalyst
• FCC catalyst
• Molecular sieves / absorbents
• Operate catalyst loading tools: sock loader, CAT loader, vibrators, vacuum equipment, etc.

Nitrogen & Confined Space Safety

• Work inside oxygen-deficient / nitrogen-inerted environments using SABA/SCBA breathing systems.
• Ensure oxygen, LEL, and toxic gas levels are monitored before and during entry.
• Follow all HSE and confined space protocols during inert entry operations.

Equipment Handling

• Operate inert entry equipment: harness, lifeline, tripod, manway fans, ventilation units.
• Check and maintain breathing apparatus, air hoses, regulators, and safety equipment.
• Handle vacuum machines, loading pipes, flexible hoses, and reactor entry tools.

Shutdown & Turnaround Activities

• Support reactor shutdown, vessel opening, cleaning, inspection, and catalyst replacement.
• Assist in mechanical team activities related to catalyst handling inside towers/reactors.
• Work closely with supervisors during shutdown & major maintenance events.

Safety & Documentation

• Follow PTW (Permit to Work), LOTO, SIMOPS, and refinery safety guidelines strictly.
• Maintain job activity logs, equipment checklists & catalyst handling reports.
• Report unsafe conditions & support emergency readiness procedures.
