Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
This position manages the department responsible for developing control engineers with the necessary skills and experience to safely operate the power system, ensuring grid reliability and security. The department also serves as the critical link between control engineers and software developers/maintainers, facilitating the development and maintenance of key applications like EMS/SCADA, WAMS, EDL, and DTS, to equip LDCs Control Center teams with effective operational tools."
Description
- Takes overall responsibility of effectively utilizing all available LDC applications to maximize system performance and consistently achieve LDC operational targets.
- Provides comprehensive monthly reports detailing system performance, including key observations and actionable insights.
- Maintain close coordination with the real-time section team to ensure consistently high transmission network and EMS/SCADA, WAMS system reliability.
- Responsible for the ongoing updating and tuning of applications or systems that the department oversees.
- Actively develops the team's technical capabilities to consistently deliver high-standard outputs. This includes ongoing training and mentorship.
- Manage the team's participation in security measures, backup procedures, and crash recovery processes for application systems.
- Monitors application system performance and tuning parameters to accurately detect and respond to network dynamics.
- Identifies system operation bottlenecks during contingencies and provide clear, actionable recommendations to real-time system engineers for effective remedial actions.
- Ensure team is running, utilizing and delivering technical support to SCADA / EMS / WAMS applications.
- Ensures team is utilizing real-time SCADA-EMS applications to recommend optimal operational strategies based on load flow and contingency analysis.
- Ensures team is leveraging the Dispatcher Training Simulator tool to analyze various operational scenarios and conduct in-depth studies.
- Provides support in preparing detailed analysis reports for any sudden grid events.
- Ensures team is assisting in performing short circuit and fault level calculations in real-time operations.
- Ensures team is assisting in analysing Spot Market impacts on system operation.
- Assists team in analyzing the penetration and effects of renewable generation on system operation.
- Continuously upgrading the technical skills and knowledge of team members through ongoing training and mentorship.
- Responsible for overseeing the development and delivery technical training for LDC staff.
- Responsible for overseeing the development, authorization and certification of the control engineers within LDC
Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent qualification.
Professional Experience:
Minimum of 9 years experience in large, interconnected power system operations in relevant field.
