Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise ICU nursing staff during assigned shifts
- Ensure optimal care for critically ill patients, including ventilated and hemodynamically unstable cases
- Assign patient loads based on acuity, staffing levels, and nurse competencies
- Monitor patient conditions and intervene or escalate clinical concerns as needed
- Oversee the use and management of critical care equipment (ventilators, infusion pumps, monitors)
- Coordinate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care
- Manage ICU admissions, transfers, and discharges efficiently
- Respond to emergencies, including code blue situations, and support resuscitation efforts
- Ensure adherence to infection control policies and patient safety standards
- Handle patient and family concerns with professionalism and empathy
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and accreditation processes (e.g., JCI)
- Mentor and support junior nurses and newly hired ICU staff
