Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
We are seeking a Chief Naval Architect to lead all naval architecture activities within client s UAE operation. This is a senior leadership role responsible for technical authority, team development, and the successful delivery of complex, high-value yacht projects.
The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on technical involvement, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and classification standards while supporting innovation across sailing and power catamaran platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all naval architecture functions for the UAE facility.
- Develop, structure, and mentor a high-performing naval architecture team in a dynamic growth environment.
- Provide technical authority across stability, hydrodynamics, structural design, and performance optimisation.
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Ensure full compliance with classification society rules and international maritime regulations.
- Collaborate with global teams, including counterparts in Europe, to ensure design consistency and best practice.
- Support R&D initiatives, including eco technologies, energy efficiency, and advanced materials.
- Contribute to concept development and feasibility studies for new build and custom yacht projects.
- Interface with shipyard production, engineering, and project management teams to ensure design intent is delivered.
- Act as a key technical stakeholder in client and partner discussions where required.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Minimum 15 years experience in naval architecture within yacht building, shipbuilding, or related marine sectors.
- Proven experience in a senior or leadership-level naval architecture role.
- Strong proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Strong expertise in stability, hydrodynamics, and structural design.
- Extensive experience working with classification societies (e.g. Lloyd s Register, DNV, ABS).
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools (e.g. NAPA, Maxsurf, Rhino, CFD/FEM tools).
- Solid understanding of composite structures and their application in yacht construction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multidisciplinary technical functions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to operate across international teams.
Good to have
- Experience with large custom yachts or high-performance catamarans.
- Exposure to sustainable technologies (solar integration, hybrid systems, energy optimisation).
- Previous experience working in the Middle East or international shipyard environments.
- Background in both sailing and motor yacht platforms.
