Roles & Responsibilities

Desired Candidate Profile

Key responsibilities

• Food Preparation: Washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients; mixing and weighing ingredients; and setting up workstations.
• Cooking and Cooking Support: Cooking food according to set standards and recipes; assisting senior chefs (Chef De Partie) with cooking tasks and supporting different kitchen stations.
• Hygiene and Cleanliness: Maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen area; adhering to all safety and food safety procedures.
• Inventory and Stocking: Assisting with receiving and storing food supplies; ensuring the assigned kitchen station is stocked with raw materials and ingredients.
• Equipment: Familiarizing with and using all kitchen equipment safely.

Qualifications and skills

• Experience: Often requires 1-2 years of experience as a Commis Chef or apprentice in a good quality hotel or restaurant.
• Skills: Basic culinary skills, good knowledge of hygiene practices, and the ability to follow recipes accurately.
• Qualities: A good team player with strong communication skills.
• Education: A culinary or pastry arts diploma is sometimes preferred or required, especially for specialized roles like a Pastry Commis.
