Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
We are seeking a motivated Commis to join our professional kitchen team in a private property. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chef de Partie and Head Chef to prepare, cook, and present high-quality dishes. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene and kitchen operations.
Key Responsibilities - commis chef duties
Assist with daily food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
Prepare basic dishes and components to the specification of senior chefs.
Maintain consistent portion control and presentation standards.
Ensure mise en place is complete and stations are well organised.
Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.
Support senior chefs during service, including plating and garnishing.
Follow recipes and menu specifications, adapting to menu changes when required.
Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP documentation.
Contribute to a positive team environment and participate in training and development.
Desired Candidate Profile
Basic culinary qualification (NVQ Level 1/2 or equivalent) or demonstrable kitchen experience.
Familiarity with food safety and hygiene regulations
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes precisely.
Good time management and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to learn, take direction and develop culinary skills.
Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen equipment/stock as required.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
Flexibility with shift patterns including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
