Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical genetics consultations for paediatric and adult patients
  • Diagnose and manage inherited, congenital, and metabolic genetic disorders
  • Deliver pre-test and post-test genetic counselling to patients and families
  • Interpret and apply results from molecular, cytogenetic, and genomic testing
  • Support prenatal, reproductive, and cancer genetics services as applicable
  • Participate in inpatient consultations and outpatient clinics

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work closely with paediatrics, obstetrics, oncology, neurology, and other specialties
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and case discussions
  • Provide guidance to referring physicians on appropriate genetic investigations

Education, Quality & Governance

  • Contribute to clinical audits, research, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in teaching and training of medical staff and allied health professionals
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Stay up to date with advances in clinical genetics and genomic medicine

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Medical degree from a recognized institution
  • Board certification or specialist qualification in Clinical Genetics
  • Minimum 5 years of post-specialist consultant-level experience (pathway dependent)
  • Eligibility for licensure with DOH (Abu Dhabi Department of Health)
  • Strong communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in paediatric, prenatal, or cancer genetics
  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing and genomic diagnostics
  • Experience working in a tertiary or academic medical centre
  • International training or experience (UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or equivalent)
