Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) roles at Saudi Arabian Ministry Hospital involve implementing, monitoring, and enforcing evidence-based infection control guidelines to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
Key duties include surveillance, outbreak investigations, policy development, antimicrobial stewardship, and staff education/training.
- Surveillance and Monitoring: Conducting active surveillance of HAIs, monitoring environmental safety (water, food, air), and ensuring proper sterilization/disinfection techniques.
- Policies and Procedures: Developing, updating, and enforcing infection control policies, and participating in committees like the Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC)
- Education and Training: Providing education on infection prevention to staff and promoting Basic Infection Control Skills License (BICSL) Training Program.
- Outbreak Management: Investigating and controlling infection outbreaks in collaboration with public health teams.
- Occupational Health: Identifying infection risks, managing staff exposure (needle sticks), and overseeing immunization programs.
- Antimicrobial Stewardship: Monitoring antibiotic use and developing policies to tackle antimicrobial resistance.
These positions are crucial to specialized units, including those serving as World Health Organization Collaborating Centers (WHO-CC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council Centre for Infection Control (GCC-CIC).
Desired Candidate Profile
1. Basic Medical Qualification
- MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.
2. Postgraduate Qualification (Specialty/Subspecialty)
To be classified as a Consultant, one of the following is typically required:
- MD/DNB/MS/ in Microbiology, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics (relevant specialty).
- Fellowship/ in Infectious Diseases or Infection Prevention & Control (Essential or strongly preferred).
- Membership/Fellowship/ in Infection Control from accredited bodies (e.g., in America or Europe).
3. Professional Experience (Crucial for Consultant)
- Minimum 3-5 years/ of post-board/fellowship experience as a Specialist/Consultant in Infection Control.
- Recent, continuous, and documented experience in a hospital setting.
4. Certifications & Licensing
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is highly preferred or mandatory.
- Valid Registration License/ from the Indian Medical Council.
- DataFlow Verification (PSV): Primary source verification of all educational and experience certificates is mandatory.
- SCFHS Registration/License: A "Consultant" classification from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (requires passing the Prometric exam).
- BLS/ACLS/ certification from the American Heart Association.
5. Other Requirements
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
- Knowledge of national/international infection control regulations.
