Consultant Psychiatrist (Fixed Term 12 Months)
Location: Darwin Region, Northern Territory, Australiabr>
Position Overview
We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a public mental health service in Darwin on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with strong potential for extension. This role offers exposure to a diverse, high-acuity caseload, including Indigenous mental health and complex presentations.
Clinical Scope
- Management of:
- Severe mental illness (psychosis, bipolar disorder)
- Mood and anxiety disorders
- Substance use and dual diagnosis
- Acute and community-based psychiatric care
- Crisis intervention and risk management
Service Structure
- Work across:
- Inpatient units
- Community mental health teams
- Emergency / crisis services
- Strong multidisciplinary teams (MDT) including nurses, psychologists, and social workers
Additional Responsibilities
- Supervision of registrars and junior doctors
- Participation in Mental Health Act assessments
- Contribution to service development and quality improvement
