Roles & Responsibilities

Responsible for monitoring and managing project expenditures, ensuring costs stay within budget, and providing financial oversight throughout a project's lifecycle

They analyze project plans, materials, and labor requirements to develop accurate cost estimates and ensure projects stay within budget throughout their lifecycle. Cost engineers also monitor project costs, identify cost trends, and develop strategies for cost control and risk mitigation.

  • Cost Estimating:

Develop detailed cost estimates for various project components, considering factors like materials, labor, and equipment.

  • Cost Analysis:

Analyze project plans and specifications to identify potential cost overruns and recommend cost-saving measures.

  • Budget Management:

Establish and maintain project budgets, track expenditures, and forecast costs.

  • Cost Control:

Implement cost control measures, monitor project progress, and identify and resolve cost variances.

  • Risk Management:

Identify and assess cost risks, and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Reporting:

Prepare and present cost reports to project managers and stakeholders, communicating cost performance and potential issues.

  • Collaboration:

Work closely with project managers, procurement teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective cost management.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related field.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, cost trends, and relevant regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating software and project management tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of cost control principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
