Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the overall implementation and direction of UNODC projects and initiatives in the areas of human trafficking and migrant smuggling. S/he will be responsible for the following specific tasks:
- Support the coordination and monitoring of the Regional Programme Preventing and Countering Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in the MENA Region, ensuring all activities align with professional investigative and judicial standards.
- Organize and conduct capacity-building and technical assistance on the detection and investigation of migrant smuggling, specifically focusing on technology, virtual assets, darknets, and modern investigative tools.
- Coordinate international and regional workshops and conferences, delivering presentations on forensic analysis and criminal investigations.
- Draft, prepare, and maintain operational guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on modern technology and cyber-related issues to ensure effective case development and the successful support of judicial proceedings.
- Conduct training needs assessments for law enforcement and criminal justice agencies to identify gaps in investigating human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
- Monitor programme implementation and budgets, collecting relevant data for progress reports and activity follow-up.
- Prepare a variety of written outputs, including background papers, evaluation reports, and mission briefings.
- Support the visibility of UNODC s anti-migrant smuggling work and ensure donor recognition in all public activities and communications.
- Analyze data to identify trends or patterns using visualization methods (graphs, charts) to enable data-driven planning and reporting on organized crime.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.
Desired Candidate Profile
An advanced university degree (Master s degree or equivalent) in criminology, law, criminal law, human rights, international criminal law, cyber law, security studies, information technology, forensic science or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in a similar field in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

This position is located in the Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Cairo, Egypt.
