Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Strategic:
- Trade Compliance: Stay up to date with Omani customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements to ensure all shipments are compliant and avoid potential penalties.
- Tariff Classification: Determine the appropriate tariff codes for goods to ensure accurate assessment of duties and taxes.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the customs clearance process and collaborate with the Customs Manager to implement changes.
- Compliance Reporting: Prepare and submit reports to management and customs authorities as required, including monthly customs clearance reports,
- Duty and tax reports, and compliance documentation
- Work with commercial/operation teams to clarify the customs requirements and processes relating to the introduction of any new products and services.
Operational:
- Customs Documentation: Prepare and review customs documentation for air, sea, and land transport shipments to ensure accuracy and compliance with Omans customs regulations.
- Ensure that all documentation required for customs clearance is presented correctly and that errors or omissions are documented and followed up with the customer concerned.
- Customs Clearance: Act as the liaison between ASYAD Freight Forwarding and Omani customs authorities, submitting required documents and information to secure customs clearance for Air, Sea, and Land shipments on time and/or prior to arrival.
- Work in the Bayan system to process documentation for incoming trips within and outside working hours.
- Duty and Tax Calculation: Calculate and communicate the applicable duties, taxes, and fees to clients, ensuring transparency and compliance.
- Problem Solving: Identify and address customs-related challenges and discrepancies, collaborating with customs authorities and clients to find solutions.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of all customs clearance activities, ensuring documentation is readily available for audit purposes.
- Send information, clearance documents & details of payments to be collected to the appropriate Freight Forwarding operations executive for the shipment release process to be completed.
- Assist the freight forwarding operations team by answering any enquiries relating to customs clearance of items.
- Work with the finance team during the clearing process for the collection and accounting for customs duty payments.
People:
- Client Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with clients to provide status updates, address inquiries, and resolve any customs-related issues promptly.
- Represent ASYAD Freight Forwarding at Omani Customs offices and attend meetings when required.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education & Qualification:
- Minimum of a Bachelors or Diploma, or equivalent in business or logistics-related
- Fluency in English (Writing / Reading / Speaking)
- Valid ROP Customs Clearance Agent Card
- Bachelor s degree holders must have a minimum of 2 years work experience, while Diploma holders require at least 6 years of experience in customs clearance within Oman.
- Experience with ROP and other Omani government entities for the import and export of goods.
Functional
- Strong knowledge of Omani customs laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in Bayan customs clearance software and tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Fluent in Arabic and English (both written and spoken).
