Job Description: Data Modeler
Role Overview
The Data Modeler is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support enterprise data management, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. The role ensures data consistency, quality, and usability across systems and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Modeling & Design
- Design and develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models
- Define entities, attributes, relationships, keys, and constraints
- Create dimensional models (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema) for data warehouses
- Design models for OLTP and OLAP systems
- Support Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Lakehouse architectures
2. Business Requirement Analysis
- Work with business stakeholders, data architects, and analysts to understand data requirements
- Translate business requirements into scalable data models
- Ensure models support reporting, analytics, and operational use cases
3. Data Governance & Standards
- Define and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and best practices
- Maintain data dictionary and metadata
- Support data governance and compliance requirements
4. Data Integration Support
- Collaborate with data engineers on ETL/ELT design
- Support source-to-target mappings
- Ensure consistency across multiple systems
5. Model Optimization & Maintenance
- Optimize models for performance and scalability
- Perform impact analysis for schema changes
- Maintain version control and documentation
6. Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Data Architects
- Data Engineers
- BI Developers
- Business Analysts
- Governance teams
Required Skills
Core Data Modeling Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Relational data modeling
- Dimensional modeling (Kimball methodology)
- Normalization and denormalization
- Fact and dimension design
- Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD)
Technical Skills
- SQL (Advanced)
- Database platforms (any 2):
- SQL Server
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
- Snowflake / Databricks / Azure Synapse / BigQuery
Data Modeling Tools
Experience with one or more:
- ERwin
- ER/Studio
- PowerDesigner
- SQL DB Designer
- Enterprise Architect
Data Platform Knowledge
- Data Warehouse
- Data Lake / Lakehouse
- ETL/ELT concepts
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
Preferred Skills
- Experience with:
- Azure Data Platform / Databricks
- Snowflake
- Data governance tools (Purview, Collibra)
- BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
Domain Banking is must
Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field
- 8 to 10 years of experience in data modeling and database design
