Contract type: Volunteer - Unpaid Age required: Minimum 18 years old Duration of contract: 10 weeks JOB TITLE: Data Science Volunteer TYPE OF CONTRACT: WFP Volunteer UNIT/DIVISION: Data & AI / Technology Division DUTY STATION (City, Country): Cairo, Egypt BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: The Data & AI team in the technology division is seeking motivated undergraduate interns to support global AI initiatives at WFP. This internship offers hands-on exposure to real-world data science and artificial intelligence projects that contribute to enterprise solutions with organizational impact. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Data Scientist, interns will work closely with the team to support data analysis, model development, experimentation, and documentation activities while building practical experience in applied AI and machine learning. ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Support the Data & AI team in data preparation, exploratory analysis, and quality checks for ongoing global AI projects. 2. Contribute to developing, testing, and evaluating Python-based data science and machine learning workflows under guidance from team members. 3. Assist in researching and applying relevant machine learning techniques, tools, and best practices for project use cases. 4. Prepare clear technical documentation, summaries, and presentations to communicate methods, findings, and progress to the team. 5. Participate in team meetings, collaborate with colleagues across functions, and complete assigned internship tasks under the supervision of the Lead Data Scientist. DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT: 1. Completed analytical or technical tasks assigned during the internship, including code, analysis outputs, or prototype contributions as applicable. 2. A short end-of-internship presentation or written summary documenting the work completed, key learnings, and recommendations. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Education: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Knowledge & Skills: Required: working knowledge of Python and general understanding of data science and machine learning techniques; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to learn quickly, communicate clearly, and work collaboratively in a team environment. Languages : Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
