Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Develop electrical designs and deliverables for low-voltage systems including power distribution, switchboards, final subcircuits, earthing and bonding, cable schedules, lighting layouts, emergency and standby power systems, and segregation/coordination studies in accordance with client requirements and applicable codes and standards.
Prepare electrical design calculations, load schedules, short-circuit and protective device coordination studies, voltage-drop calculations, and harmonic assessments; document assumptions, methodologies, and results in design reports.
Produce and review engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, and installation details using AutoCAD, Revit, or other design/BIM tools; coordinate with CAD/drafting staff to deliver consistent, auditable drawing packages for review and construction.
Coordinate design interfaces with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation, and control disciplines to identify and resolve conflicts; participate in multidisciplinary design coordination meetings and issue coordinated design revisions.
Conduct technical reviews, quality checks, and peer reviews of electrical design outputs to ensure compliance with engineering standards, electrical safety codes, and project specifications.
Support tendering and procurement by preparing specifications, responding to technical queries, reviewing vendor data sheets, and providing design input for contractor proposals and construction methodologies.
Assist with site inspections, installation verification, and commissioning activities, including reviewing as-built information, witnessing tests, and liaising with site teams and contractors to validate design assumptions and resolve field issues.
Provide technical support during construction by reviewing contractor submittals, RFIs, method statements, and proposed design modifications; recommend mitigation measures when field conditions differ from design assumptions.
Maintain design documentation, revision control, and project records in accordance with company document control procedures and client requirements.
Contribute to continuous improvement of electrical design standards, templates, detail libraries, and workflows to increase efficiency and quality across projects.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Relevant postgraduate qualifications or professional registration (e.g., PE, P.Eng., CEng, or equivalent) are an advantage.
Minimum 7 years' experience in low-voltage electrical design within construction, infrastructure, or engineering consultancy environments. Experience across building services, industrial, or infrastructure projects is required.
Demonstrated experience preparing electrical design calculations, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and construction-ready documentation for medium to large projects.
Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and providing technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with Revit or other BIM tools for preparation of electrical drawings and models; familiarity with electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, Ecodial, SKM, EasyPower) is beneficial.
Strong engineering analysis skills and competence with LV design calculations including load assessments, fault level and short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, and voltage-drop calculations.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, equipment datasheets, schematics, and relevant electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC, local regulations).
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel for load schedules and calculations, Word for reports) and common project document control systems and PDF markup tools.
Familiarity with preparing technical specifications, bill of materials, and cost input to support procurement and tendering is advantageous.
