Job Description


Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources serves as AUIB's chief HR officer, providing strategic leadership and operational oversight across all areas of human resources management - including recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, professional development, and compliance with Iraqi labor laws and institutional policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and systems that align with AUIB's mission and strategic goals.
  • Oversee the full cycle of recruitment, onboarding, and retention for academic and administrative staff.
  • Design and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs.
  • Lead performance evaluation, training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Advise the COO and university leadership on employee relations, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with Iraqi labor laws and university policies.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture grounded in respect, integrity, and collaboration.
  • Oversee HR information systems and maintain accurate and confidential personnel records.
  • Lead strategic headhunting and executive recruitment for senior and specialized positions.
  • Oversee and optimize HR digital systems and Oracle HCM operations, ensuring accurate data and reporting.
  • Support organizational design, workforce planning, and succession management.
  • Develop and implement training and professional development programs for staff growth.
  • Manage employee relations and conflict resolution processes to maintain a positive workplace climate.
  • Collaborate with Finance on budgeting and manpower forecasting.
  • Prepare HR analytics and dashboards to support data-driven leadership decisions.
Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible HR experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Experience in higher education or large international organizations preferred.
  • Professional HR certification required (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, CIPD, or SPHR or PHR, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in HR information systems (preferably Oracle or similar ERP platforms).
  • Proven ability in strategic recruitment and headhunting for senior or specialized positions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to develop and implement HR policies, compensation structures, and job grading systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to staff development, performance management, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Fluency in English required; Arabic proficiency is an advantage.
