Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Rig Operations:
- Manages the drilling operation, operates, controls the drilling equipment, and ensures that drilling activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Supervises and directs the drilling crew and provides guidance, assigns tasks, and monitors performance to ensure the smooth execution of drilling activities.
- Monitors drilling parameters, adjusts equipment settings and troubleshoots issues to perfect drilling performance.
- Reports drilling progress, well conditions, safety incidents, and any deviations from drilling plans to Toolpusher /OIM and Client representative onboard and other relevant parties.
- Ensures any deviation from client well plan is approved by Toolpusher, OIM and Client representative.
- Monitors third party operations on the drill floor and other drilling related areas. Ensuring 3rd party personnel and sub-contractors use safe work methods.
- Collaborates with Well planners, engineers, and other team members to develop drilling plans and strategies.
- Maintains accurate records including drilling reports, equipment logs, safety records, tubular run in the hole including pipe tally, full BHA/completion components and critical fishing dimensions and drilling parameters.
- Fill up a daily drilling report for the activities performed during his shift & update the pipe tally book and draft dimensioned drawings of the equipment run in the well to describe the work conducted.
- Utilize drilling control equipment, monitor gauges and auxiliary tools, and promptly notify the tool pusher and client representative of necessary actions to address potential issues such as, but not limited to, stuck pipe, flow back, and hydraulics.
- Ensure the hole is drilled using good oilfield practice to the required depth, with adequate well control contingency in place.
- Monitor for any down hole irregularities such as kicks, pressure fluctuations, and abnormal torque. Take immediate action to secure the well in the event of a well control incident and promptly inform the Toolpusher and client representative.
- Instruct subordinates to diligently monitor the pipe string for any irregularities during the process of pulling out of the hole.
- Take charge of BOP installation including installations of auxiliary equipment such as hoses, guide wire, etc.
- Pressure test Well Control Equipment as per Company and Regulatory requirement to ensure readiness and effectiveness in critical situations.
- Monitor and control the mud activities to maintain proper mud volume, weight and properties.
Equipment:
- Report machinery and equipment deficiencies requiring repair or replacement to the supervisor.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure execution of maintenance and repair works.
- Organize and oversee routine maintenance and repair of drilling equipment.
- Conducting weekly checks on the derrick and substructure.
- Perform daily visual inspections on various equipment in area of responsibility per Rigs daily check forms.
- Provide instructions to the drilling team for the repair and maintenance of drilling equipment as per the planned maintenance system.
Working at Heights:
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as per Company procedure.
- Assesses risks and hazards before performing tasks at elevated locations, considering factors such as stability, weather conditions, and potential fall hazards.
- Inspects and ensures the proper functioning of height-related equipment, such as scaffolding, ladders, and safety lines, prior to use.
- Be knowledgeable about fall protection systems, including their setup, proper usage, and limitations.
- Effectively communicates identified hazards and safety concerns to the team, promoting a proactive safety culture.
Housekeeping:
- Instruct subordinates to maintain a clean and hazard-free work area before and after completing tasks or repairs.
- Enforce ADES waste management policies.
- Maintain all drilling areas in a clean and tidy condition by directing crew accordingly.
Rig Move:
- Lead the drilling crew in preparing for the rig move checklist and setting up the drill floor, tanks, cantilever, and main deck.
- Prior to rig move ensure that all movable equipment is secured and fastened, lines are disconnected and secured, and equipment is repositioned to prevent hazards or damage to personnel or rig.
People Management & Development:
- Provide clear instructions to their team about their duties, responsibilities, and any necessary safety precautions prior to commencing work.
- Mentor, develop and train their team to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Finds opportunities for skill and career advancement, works to support the professional growth of their team.
- Ensure their team receives training to perform their duties safely and effectively through on-the-job training and participation in safety drills and exercises.
- Support, promote and actively take part in ADES s Competency Assurance Program for their team.
- Evaluates the performance of their team on constant and fair feedback basis, find areas for improvement, drive ADVANCE process to formalize a performance management culture.
