Job Summary

Responsible for operating and supervising drilling operations using 1500-2000 HP mechanical rigs equipped with top drive systems. The Driller ensures safe, efficient, and compliant drilling operations while maintaining well control and leading the drilling crew in all phases of the well program.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and monitor mechanical land drilling rigs (1500-2000 HP) with top drive systems for horizontal wells.

Supervise and guide the drilling crew during drilling, tripping, casing, and BOP operations.

Ensure well control integrity and proper functioning of the BOP stack, choke manifold, and safety systems.

Optimize drilling parameters (WOB, torque, RPM, mud properties) to achieve maximum ROP and maintain operational efficiency.

Execute drilling operations in coordination with directional drilling teams.

Coordinate with Toolpusher, Mud Engineer, Directional Driller, Cementing, and Logging teams for seamless execution.

Conduct pre-job safety meetings, toolbox talks, and routine inspections to ensure HSE compliance.

Maintain accurate daily drilling reports, logs, and equipment performance data.

Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and operational issues with maintenance teams.

Supervise preventive maintenance of rig equipment including top drive, drawworks, rotary system, and pumps.

Train and mentor junior rig personnel on safe work practices and drilling procedures.

Respond promptly to well control situations as per IWCF/IADC standards and company policy.

Qualifications & Certifications

Diploma / Degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, or related Engineering discipline.

10-15 years of onshore drilling experience, including horizontal (hogiaal) well operations.

Valid IWCF / IADC Well Control Certificate - Driller Level.

Strong technical knowledge of mechanical land rigs, top drive operations, BOP systems, and mud hydraulics.

Proficiency in rig instrumentation and drilling monitoring systems.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Background

Experience on 1500-2000 HP mechanical land rigs with top drive systems (NOV, Canrig, Tesco, etc.).

Proven expertise in horizontal / hogiaal drilling, HPHT wells, and deviated well operations.

Worked with reputed E&P operators or drilling contractors.

Familiar with Indian onshore drilling regions (Rajasthan, Assam, Cambay Basin, KG Basin).
