Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Plans and directs all drilling, well completion and workover operations and ensures that all operations have been thoroughly researched, engineered, programmed and implemented in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with the prescribed requirements of the subsurface team.

Maintains Standards in all operations.

Directs the preparation of drilling, drilling fluid & cement programmes for drilling workover and exploration operations and the availability of the required materials.

Drives continuous improvement.

Keeps abreast of new development in drilling techniques and ensures that subordinates are provided with such information to improve work effectiveness and efficiency.

Reviews and approves operational and engineering reports prepared by subordinates such as drilling, well completion, workover, flow test, drill stem test and similar technical summary reports.

Ensures accurate reporting of all drilling activities.

Provides the technical advice for drilling contractors and consultants and the technical assessment of responses to tenders for drilling services and materials

Provides advice and recommend solutions for drilling problems of serious nature (e.g. logging failure, work & cement failure ...etc.).

Provides overall supervision over the contracted services to ensure that all work is properly supervised and administered, includes ensuring that contacts with operating contractors and service companies are maintained at all levels and ensuring that contractors and service companies fully understand requirements and are capable of meeting them.

Responsible for preparations of tenders and evaluation of bids.

Ensures that drilling activities are completed within budget and schedule.

Controls expenditure and ensures that the variances between approved budget and actual Expenditure / invoices are properly allocated and justified.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Drilling Manager such as: chairing the daily operations coordination meetings, ensuring the operations are at a minimum cost and consistent with safety and overall efficiency, recommending training, career development programs for subordinates.

Regular visits to field to audit rig

Participate in inventory control

Evaluates activities against preestablished goals, and makes recommendations based on evaluations.

Stays abreast of current technology in the drilling activities

Desired Candidate Profile

Bachelor degree in Petroleum, Mining or Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum of 15 years overall drilling experience
  • including at least 3 years rig site experience
  • Including a minimum of 5 years in a drilling leadership role (Senior DE, Superintendent)
  • Good understanding of HSE Management (systems, implementation, safety leadership)
  • Experience with well design (casing design, casing seat selection, drilling fluids planning, cementing planning, directional drilling planning).
  • MENA region area knowledge. Oman knowledge preferred.
  • Industry training in drilling technology and HSE.
  • Valid IWCF Certificate Level 4 Surface or equivalent
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is an essential requirement. Candidates should demonstrate at least a CEFR B2 level of English. An IELTS score of 7 or an equivalent English language certification is preferred but not essential.
  • Good PC Skills (Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Outlook)
