Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The EAL (English as an Additional Language) Coordinator is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the school s EAL program to support students whose first language is not English. The role ensures that EAL students receive appropriate language instruction, interventions, and accommodations to succeed academically and socially. The EAL Coordinator works closely with teachers, parents, and school leadership to ensure a consistent, effective, and compliant EAL framework aligned with SPEA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
. Student Identification & Assessment
- Screen and assess new and existing students to determine English language proficiency levels.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments and placement tests as required.
- Monitor ongoing progress through formative and summative assessments.
- Maintain accurate EAL student profiles and development records.
2. EAL Instruction & Support
- Plan and deliver targeted EAL lessons to individuals or small groups.
- Provide language support in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Develop IEP-style language development plans for students needing additional support.
- Implement differentiated strategies to assist English language learners (ELLs) in mainstream classes.
3. Collaboration with Teachers
- Work closely with homeroom and subject teachers to ensure EAL strategies are integrated into classroom instruction.
- Support teachers in modifying lesson plans, assessments, and materials for ELLs.
- Provide training, workshops, and resources on EAL best practices.
- Participate in curriculum planning to ensure alignment with language learning needs.
4. Program Development & Resource Management
- Develop and update EAL curriculum materials, vocabulary lists, reading programs, and scaffolding resources.
- Identify suitable books, digital tools, and teaching aids to support the EAL program.
- Review and revise the program periodically to ensure quality and effectiveness.
5. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
- Track student progress using data-driven methods.
- Prepare progress reports and updates for school leadership and parents.
- Maintain documentation required by SPEA and school policies.
- Support the preparation of evidence for inspections and compliance reviews.
6. Parent & Community Engagement
- Communicate regularly with parents about student progress, needs, and home strategies for language development.
- Hold parent meetings or workshops to explain the EAL process and expectations.
7. Professional Contribution
- Participate in staff meetings, committees, school events, and professional learning sessions.
- Stay updated on current EAL methodologies and literacy development strategies.
- Contribute to school initiatives that promote language development, inclusion, and cultural diversity.
Desired Candidate Profile
Requirements:
- Bachelor s degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, or related field.
- Certification in teaching English language learners (TESOL/TEFL/CELTA) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 3 years of experience teaching EAL or ESL students (UAE/GCC experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of second-language acquisition and differentiated instruction.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in digital learning tools and educational technology.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and parents.
