Roles & Responsibilities

The Slaughterhouse Electrical Technician is responsible for the hands-on maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all electrical and electro-mechanical systems within the facility. This role ensures that specialized poultry processing lines (from bird reception to packaging) operate at peak efficiency with minimal electrical downtime while adhering to strict food safety and occupational hazards protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Execute daily electrical maintenance on specialized poultry processing equipment, including Linco, Baader, and similar poultry processing systems.
Repair and maintain electrical components on overhead conveyors, stunners, scalders, and evisceration machinery.
Perform machine calibrations and electrical adjustments during product changeovers to ensure optimal yield.

2. Automation, PLC & Controls

Troubleshoot PLC-controlled machinery by checking I/O status, sensors, and limit switches.
Use SCADA interfaces to identify faults and monitor real-time system performance.
Replace and wire faulty sensors, encoders, and safety interlocks.

3. Power Systems & Motor Controls

Install, configure, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and soft starters.
Perform routine checks on induction and servo motors, including insulation testing and phase balancing.
Maintain electrical panels, ensuring all breakers, contactors, and relays are functioning correctly.

4. Electro-Pneumatics & Mechanical Support

Maintain solenoid valves and actuators that control automated gates and diverters.
Assist in the electrical upkeep of HVAC units and refrigeration control panels to maintain the cold chain.
Collaborate with mechanical teams on gearbox replacements or motor alignments where electrical disconnection is required.

5. Food Safety & Compliance

Follow LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures strictly before performing any intervention.
Work in compliance with HACCP standards to prevent cross-contamination during repairs.
Ensure all electrical enclosures are properly sealed (IP65/67) to withstand high-pressure washdowns.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education & Qualifications

Diploma/ITI in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Certified Industrial Electrician license is highly preferred.

Experience Requirements

3–5 years of hands-on experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in a Poultry Slaughterhouse.
Direct experience with wet-area electrical installations and high-speed processing lines.
Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder logic diagrams.
