About Emirates Red Crescent

The United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Authority was established on 1/31/1983 and gained international recognition as the 139th member of the International Federation of Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies on 8/27/1986. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Red Crescent in 1986 and then Chairman of the Authority in 1993, which gave impetus to the Authority’s humanitarian efforts. In 1997, the Authority's role was strengthened when Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak accepted the position of Honorary President of the Emirates Red Crescent. In 2001, the Emirates Red Crescent was chosen as the second-best humanitarian organization in Asia.
