Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Engineer Analyzer is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and optimization of analyzer systems within OQBI facilities. The role ensures that process analyzer s and their associated systems are operating effectively, efficiently, and safely in accordance with operational requirements and industry standards. The Engineer Analyzer works closely with the E&I Support Team and other departments to minimize downtime, ensure regulatory compliance, and support continuous improvement in the plant's operations.
This role is guided in accordance with the OQBI Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategies, as well as policies, guidelines, and both local & international standards. It is supported by an IT Technology platform, HSSE standards, Omani government regulations, legal justifications, and best international practices. All these elements are aligned with the national objectives of Oman.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Analyzer Maintenance and Calibration:
- Perform regular maintenance and calibration of process analyzers (e.g., gas chromatographs, oxygen analyzers, pH meters, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and compliance with operational standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve analyzer issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures to avoid recurrent problems and minimize downtime.
- Carry out preventive maintenance activities on analyzers and related equipment, ensuring timely execution according to established schedules.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, calibration, and testing activities for analyzers and associated equipment, ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams on analyzer-related matters, including troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and identifying improvements to optimize analyzer performance.
- Review and assess analyzer performance data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and optimize operational performance.
- Work closely with the Manager E&I Support and other technical teams to ensure that analyzer systems meet performance targets and operational efficiency goals.
Performance Optimization:
- Support analyzer system optimization efforts by identifying potential upgrades or improvements in analyzer technology, process integration, or operational procedures.
- Conduct regular performance reviews of analyzer systems, identifying any deviations from expected performance and addressing them in a timely manner.
- Assist in implementing predictive maintenance strategies to enhance analyzer reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all analyzer maintenance and operations are conducted in accordance with HSE regulations, industry standards, and OQBI Salalah's safety protocols.
- Participate in regular safety audits and risk assessments for analyzer systems and associated equipment to ensure that safety and environmental standards are met.
- Report any safety incidents, near-misses, or operational deviations related to analyzer systems, and support the implementation of corrective actions.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of all maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization activities for analyzer systems.
- Submit regular performance reports, analysis of equipment issues, and recommendations for improvements to the Manager E&I Support and other relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain records of spares inventory for analyzer systems and ensure that necessary parts are available for quick repairs.
Training and Development:
- Provide training and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians regarding analyzer maintenance, calibration procedures, and troubleshooting.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in analyzer technologies and best practices to enhance the maintenance process and ensure that the plant is using state-of-the-art systems.
Project Support:
- Support installation, commissioning, and start-up activities for new analyzer systems, ensuring that they are integrated into the existing infrastructure and meet operational requirements.
- Work with the E&I Support team and external vendors to assist in the procurement, installation, and commissioning of new analyzer equipment.
Desired Candidate Profile
Education requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (required).
Language requirements Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) Arabic - Native (desirable)
Background and experience Competencies and skills
Experience:
- Engineer: 5-8 years of relevant experience
- Relevant experience in similar role (Oil & Gas / Petrochemical or Refinery Plant experience preferred).
- hands-on experience in maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of process analyzers and related systems in an industrial environment (preferably oil & gas or petrochemical industry).
- Experience with analyzers such as gas chromatographs, oxygen analyzers, pH meters, and other process measurement equipment.
- Familiarity with HSE guidelines, safety regulations, and industry standards related to analyzer systems.
Soft:
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot complex issues related to analyzer systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with colleagues from various departments.
- Attention to detail in analyzing system performance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Strong communication and reporting skills, with the ability to present technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.
Technical:
- In-depth knowledge of analyzer technologies (e.g ,(1) Gas Chromatographs (GC) ,(2) Liquid Chromatographs (LC) ,(3) Mass Spectrometers (MS),(4) Infrared (IR) Spectrometers ,(5) Near-Infrared (NIR) Analysers ,(6)Sulphur Analysers ,(7) Moisture Analysers ,(8)Oxygen Analysers ,(9)Process Gas Analysers ,(10)pH Analysers ,(11)Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS)., etc.) and maintenance techniques.
- Experience with instrumentation and control systems integration, particularly in the context of DCS and PLC systems.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software, including systems like SAP PM or similar tools.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques and how to apply them to analyzer systems.
