Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager and in coordination with the staff and consultants of the Project, the Engineer for Accessibility and Restoration will achieve her/his purpose through a constant, respectful collaboration with the Project s stakeholders: the Municipality of Jerash, the Department of Antiquities and the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the High Council for Disability.
In particular, the main responsibilities of the Engineer will be:
- Prepare a detailed BoQ for each of the urban and archeological development interventions:
- the first one focuses on the enhancement of the Eastern Roman Baths area through urban redevelopment works (e.g. cleaning, landscaping, lighting, waste management);
- the second focuses on the accessibility works within the Archeological site and its connection with the Eastern Roman Baths (eg: accessibility works for the golf carts path, ticket office, toilet, parking space ).
- Collaborate with local authorities in defining intervention priorities, organizing an operational schedule, and selecting the team of workers.
- Confirm the team of workers, under the Cash for Work program, and guide and supervise them thorough the works
- Supervise the implementation of the interventions in close collaboration with the Municipality of Jerash and the Department of Antiquities.
- Coordinate with all relevant stakeholders in the selection of materials and equipment necessary for the interventions.
- Work closely with ARCS staff on the procurement of selected materials and tools, ensuring adherence to the organization's procurement procedures and the rules set by AICS.
- Provide technical support and advice to ensure the quality and safety of the works.
- Act as the main focal point for occupational safety, ensuring that all personnel involved in the urban development interventions operate in safe working conditions.
Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum Requirements:
- Have Jordanian nationality or having the authorization to work in Jordan
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent obtained abroad) and professional engineering license, both held for at least 10 years
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing urban regeneration, cultural heritage conservation, or similar projects
- Minimum 3 years of experience in similar roles, with INGOs registered in Jordan, or nonprofit, donor funded organizations
Selection criteria
- Demonstrated experience in preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQs)
- Proven experience in planning and managing the procurement of goods and services
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Team-oriented attitude and strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, partners, and institutions
- Native Arabic speaker with excellent knowledge of English (spoken and written)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with local stakeholders (banks, ministries, suppliers, etc.)
- Previous experience in implementing development projects funded by the Italian Cooperation
- Knowledge of the geographical area of intervention
- Master s degree and/or specialized training in cultural heritage conservation

ARCS - Arci Culture Solidali APS implements development cooperation projects in Jordan in partnership with local authorities, civil society organizations, and international partners ( ARCS Culture Solidali homepage ) The project Sustainable Jerash: enhancing cultural heritage for inclusive tourism (AID 12584), funded by the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (AICS) and implemented by ARCS Arci Culture Solidali (ARCS) in partnership with Un Ponte Per (UPP), Monumenta Orientalia (MO), Italian Association of Responsible Tourism (AITR), Horizon for Green Development (HFGD) and Sana for Special Individuals, aims to: In particular, the project will intervene within the Archeological Site to enhance its accessibility through the provision of golf cart and the clearance of a path within the site, as well as the renovations of specific infrastructures (toilet, ticket shops). Also, the project aims at renovating the square surrounding the Eastern Roman Baths with minimal but impactful interventions.
