Engineer / Operator (RHF) - Gas Based Operation (Hot Rolling Mill)

Role Overview:

The incumbent will be responsible for operating and controlling gas-based reheating furnace (RHF) systems in the Hot Rolling Mill to ensure uniform billet heating, optimal fuel utilization, and seamless material flow to rolling operations. The role requires maintaining precise temperature control, ensuring product quality, and adhering to safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Furnace Operations:

• Operate and monitor gas-based reheating furnace for continuous billet heating
• Control critical parameters such as temperature zones, pressure, and air-fuel ratio
• Ensure uniform heating of billets/blooms to required rolling temperature
• Optimize natural gas consumption and improve thermal efficiency
• Maintain steady furnace output aligned with rolling mill demand

Process Monitoring & Control:

• Maintain proper temperature profile (preheating, heating, soaking zones)
• Control residence time and discharge temperature of billets
• Prevent defects such as overheating, underheating, scaling, and temperature variation
• Monitor and adjust furnace parameters for consistent product quality

Integration with Hot Rolling Mill:

• Coordinate closely with rolling mill operators for production planning
• Ensure timely discharge of billets to avoid delays in rolling
• Maintain synchronization between furnace throughput and mill speed

Maintenance Coordination:

• Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive and breakdown maintenance
• Monitor condition of burners, recuperators, valves, and refractory lining
• Report abnormalities and assist in quick troubleshooting

Safety & Compliance:

• Adhere strictly to gas safety protocols and furnace SOPs
• Monitor for gas leaks, pressure fluctuations, and burner safety systems
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards

Reporting & Documentation:

• Maintain shift logs, production reports, and fuel consumption records
• Record furnace parameters and deviations
• Support audits, inspections, and performance reviews
