Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The College of Engineering & Energy at AASU offers degree programs in :

    • Energy Systems Engineering

The focus of teaching and research covers a broad range of traditional, emerging, and interdisciplinary areas that will help address impending societal challenges. The programs are closely linked to the activities of the Center for Resource, Energy and Sustainability, the Center for Advanced Material Science and Engineering, the Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research as well as the Center for Health and Wellbeing.

AASU is hereby inviting applications for the regular ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor for the 2026/2027 academic year. Candidates should have a proven track record for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and also have an established research record, demonstrated by publishing high-impact papers and other applicable research outcomes.

Specifically, faculty members at the college will be responsible for:

    • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
    • Engaging in interdisciplinary basic, applied, or policy research.
    • Contributing to a thriving research program by engaging in national and international scientific collaborations.
    • Receiving grants from local and international funding agencies.
    • Mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students.
    • Engaging in continuous scholarly activities and professional development.
    • Serving on program level, college level, and university level committees.
    • Performing any additional duties assigned by the program chair, college dean, and AASU management.

Required Experience

Applicants currently need to hold the position for which they are applying and have a minimum of 4 academic years (8 regular terms) of full-time residency in each rank before any academic promotion. The academic institution and the department or program where the academic experience was obtained must offer at least a bachelor s degree.

Full Professor

    • A Full Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than 8 academic years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ), after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
    • A Full Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ).

Associate Professor

    • An Associate Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than 4 academic years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
    • An Associate Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ).

Assistant Professor

    • An Assistant Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than 2 academic years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.

Desired Candidate Profile

The applicant must have a Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, or Medicine from an accredited university with a GPA of very good or equivalent.

The applicants must have a Ph.D. in Energy Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or any related field with a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent. With expertise in one or more of the following areas: renewable and sustainable energy systems, power generation and conversion technologies, electrical machines and drives, power systems analysis and control, energy efficiency and building performance, thermodynamics and thermal-fluid systems, energy storage technologies, smart grids and microgrids, and energy systems modeling and optimization.

Applicants must have a distinguished teaching record, including experience teaching at an academic institution.

Applicants must have an active and continued proven track record of research, including high-quality publications in the relevant field in refereed international journals listed and indexed in the Journal Citation Report (JCR). The h-index (ISI/SCOPUS) should be no less than 15 for Professor rank, 10 for Associate Professor rank, and 5 for Assistant Professor rank.

Recent publications should be in the field of the program the applicants are applying for.

Applicants must have a strong record of mentoring and advising students and supervising other student-related activities.

Applicants must have the potential to attract funding from external funding sources/agencies, both locally and internationally.

Applicants must have previous experience in administrative, academic, or executive committees at the level of the program, college, or university.

Applicants should possess strong communication skills (in English), both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills, leader-ship skills in a multicultural and international environment with the ability to pursue and foster collaboration.

All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ).

For Assistant Professor rank, it is preferable to have a Ph.D. degree from one of the top 100 Universities according to US News, Times Higher Education, or QS rankings.
