Job Description:

The American University in Cairo's Onsi Sawiris School of
Business invites nominations and applications for a distinguished scholar to fill the newly established Onsi Sawiris Endowed Professorship
in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, for a 4-year fixed-term appointment beginning in Fall 2026.

This distinguished
appointment recognizes and supports a scholar of international stature whose research, teaching, and leadership will advance the frontiers
of AI and data science while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and societal impact. The position is designed to attract an academic
scholar with a strong record of impactful research and teaching excellence, who will play a key role in shaping the school's strategic
direction in AI and data science, as well as its applications in business. The successful candidate will advance cutting-edge research,
foster interdisciplinary collaboration across the university, and integrate AI and data science into undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Endowed Chair will play a pivotal role in shaping the university's strategic direction in AI-driven innovation, data-intensive
discovery, and ethical technology deployment, contributing to both academic excellence and public good.

Applicants will be expected
to engage in academic and community development services consistent with teaching and research, including ongoing activities in the school,
and undertake development projects.

This is an open rank faculty search. This job opening is for a university teaching and research
role that allows for applications from candidates at any established professorial faculty level, including Assistant, Associate, and Full
Professor. It is also open for a faculty member in the category of Professor of Practice (PoP).

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or a business-related field, such as
Information Systems, from a reputable university, preferably one accredited by AACSB and/or EQUIS. Applicants must demonstrate an
internationally recognized record of research excellence and scholarly impact. Applicants must have a proven record of research publications
in the past five years in top-tier journals (A*/A according to the ABDC ranking or Q1/Q2 according to Scopus ranking). PhD candidates must
demonstrate a strong research agenda and a history of securing competitive research funding. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to
academic research, teaching, and service.

Applicants could alternatively have proven business/industry experience to qualify as a
Professor of Practice (PoP), bringing real-world experience into the academic environment to enrich teaching, research, degree development,
and service through community engagement.

• Advancing responsible and ethical AI practices to ensure
  inclusivity, transparency, sustainability, and societal benefits.

Teaching & Mentorship

• Developing innovative
  undergraduate and graduate curricula that integrate emerging technologies and industry trends, such as AI, data science, and their
  applications to business and economics.
• Aligning degrees with changing market demands.
• Delivering graduate and
  undergraduate courses in AI, data science, and related disciplines.
• Supervising and mentoring graduate students.
• Mentoring faculty.

Institutional Leadership

• Serving as a catalyst for interdisciplinary research across departments,
  schools, and external partners.
• Contributing to strategic planning for AI and data science initiatives at the institutional
  level.
• Representing the school and university in national and international forums, strengthening its global reputation, and
  elevating the level of collaboration.

Community & Industry Engagement

• Building partnerships with industry, government,
  and civil society to translate research into real-world impact.
• Engaging in public discourse on AI ethics, policy, and societal
  implications.
• Supporting outreach programs that broaden participation in AI and data science education.
• Collaborating
  with industry to design applied research projects.
