Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Field Installation, Testing, Commissioning, and Service Engineer will be responsible for executing installation, testing, and commissioning activities of Medium Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) systems at customer sites across the Middle East. The role requires strong technical expertise, hands on field experience, and effective coordination skills to ensure successful project delivery in full compliance with Siemens standards, customer specifications, and international norms.
- The core responsibility will focus on commissioning activities, with partial involvement in installation activities as required.
- Coordination & Interfaces: Collaborate closely with engineering, construction, QA/QC, HSE, operations teams, clients, and consultants. Support troubleshooting activities and root cause analysis.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain test records and checklists, prepare detailed reports and commissioning dossiers, manage punch lists, and support system handover activities.
- Compliance, Quality & Safety: Ensure all activities comply with HSE policies, contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. Participate in audits and customer acceptance inspections.

- Demonstrating expert knowledge in testing and commissioning of Siemens switchgear types including NXAIR (AIS), 8DA/DB (GIS), 8DJH (RMU), and Sivacon S8 (LV), along with associated protection systems.
- Executing on site installation, testing, and commissioning of GIS & AIS systems in accordance with Siemens standards and approved customer drawings.
- Performing pre commissioning activities, component testing, scheme checks and modifications, HV testing, and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) at customer premises.
- Independently managing site activities, supervising technicians, and ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
- Preparing and maintaining comprehensive site documentation including test reports, inspection records, Method Statements (MOS), and handover documents.
- Preparing SOPs, MOS, and other project documentation to support back office and project teams.
- Interacting directly with customers, addressing technical queries, and maintaining clear and professional communication.
- Collaborating with factory, engineering, and project teams to resolve site issues and meet project timelines.
- Ensuring strict compliance with HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) guidelines during all site operations.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and providing technical feedback for future design and process enhancements.
- Demonstrating willingness to work in challenging Oil & Gas environments and remote customer facilities, including extended working hours (up to 10 hours per day, 7 days a week) during shutdown activities.
- Providing advanced technical support for Siemens distribution systems with a strong focus on testing and troubleshooting.
- Acting as Siemens on site technical representative, leading end to end testing and commissioning activities.
- Coordinating and validating test results, updating site specific documentation, and closing all open punch points.
- Collaborating with customer teams to ensure timely completion and acceptance of commissioning activities.
- Independently handling complex technical challenges and mentoring junior engineers when required.
- Maintaining detailed service records and preparing comprehensive testing and commissioning reports.
- Staying up to date with Siemens products and industry trends through continuous training and professional development.
- Assessing and managing on site risks and opportunities while ensuring full compliance with standards, regulations, quality benchmarks, and EHS requirements.
- Demonstrating unrestricted mobility as required by site operations.
Desired Candidate Profile
A bachelor s degree in electrical engineering, Power Engineering, High Voltage Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 6 years of experience as an Installation and Commissioning Engineer in utilities, industries, and Oil & Gas facilities.
- Expert level knowledge of Siemens MV and LV products and power applications. Siemens commissioning certifications in Transformers, NXAIR, 8DA10, Sivacon S8, and protection systems are preferred.
- Hands on experience with test equipment such as Omicron CPC100, CT Analyzer, CMC356, HV test kits, breaker timing kits, etc. (mandatory).
- Readiness and flexibility to work in remote site locations.
- Valid Oman driving license or a driving license eligible for conversion in Oman (mandatory).
- Proven experience in utilities, industries, transmission grid stations, and Oil & Gas facilities.
- Prior work experience in Oman with DCRP, OETC, and PDO approvals will be an added advantage.
- Intercultural experience gained through work in the Middle East.
- Knowledge of competitor products is an advantage.
- Strong initiative, collaboration skills, and effective communication abilities.
- Business level English language proficiency, with strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to perform testing and commissioning activities safely, on time, with high quality, and through effective planning.
