Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Leadership:
    Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of workshop technicians, delegating tasks and managing work schedules.
    Conduct daily toolbox talks to brief the team on safety procedures and work instructions for each job.
    Provide hands-on technical guidance and support to the team, ensuring they follow best practices and quality protocols.
    Monitor the team's performance, conduct regular appraisals, and provide feedback to the Workshop Manager.
  • Workshop Operations:
    Plan and coordinate all workshop activities, including the repair, overhaul, reconditioning, and testing of various components (e.g., diesel engine parts, pumps, valves, and mechanical equipment).
    Ensure all jobs are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
    Oversee the maintenance and calibration of all workshop machinery, tools, and equipment.
    Manage the inventory of spare parts and consumables, coordinating with the procurement team to ensure timely availability.
  • Quality and Safety:
    Implement and enforce all company and industry-specific safety, health, and environmental policies.
    Conduct thorough quality checks and inspections of all work to minimize reworks and customer complaints.
    Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the workshop.
    Ensure all necessary documentation, such as service reports, inspection checklists, and timesheets, is completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Communication and Reporting:
    Liaise with the Workshop Manager, project managers, and clients to provide updates on job progress and address any technical issues.
    Communicate job requirements, specifications, and client expectations clearly to the workshop team.
    Prepare and submit detailed service and progress reports to management.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Education: A diploma or vocational certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in a marine, offshore, or heavy industrial workshop.
    Proven experience in a supervisory or foreman role is essential.
    Deep technical knowledge of diesel engines, pumps, valves, and general mechanical systems is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
    Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
    Expertise in using various hand tools, power tools, and workshop machinery.
    Knowledge of quality control procedures and industry standards.
  • General Skills:
    Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
    A strong commitment to safety and quality.
