Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Planning & Analysis

Conduct comprehensive system studies scenarios/analysis of generation scheduling and optimum generation patterns using Unit Commitment tools

Develop short and medium, term generation planning strategies to meet system demand

Prepare constrained and unconstrained generation schedules in accordance with Grid Code and Market Rules requirement

Analyse renewable energy integration and its impact on system operations

Study system behaviour, analyse contingencies, and prepare appropriate operational plans

Study and propose operating reserve requirement under different renewable integration share percentage

Economic Dispatch & Spot Market Operations:

Optimize economic dispatch of generation resources using advanced unit commitment software

Maintain and evaluate daily economic cost calculations for generation dispatch

Optimize the day-ahead generation schedule using spot market received bids.

Prepare Spot Market Day-ahead data in compliance with Grid Code and Market Rules

Generate provisional running orders as per Grid Code requirements

Coordination & Scheduling:

Develop and review annual generation maintenance plans.

Coordinate Annual Performance Tests, Black Start Tests, and Fuel Switching Tests for power plants

Analyze and approve power plant outage requests based on system conditions and Grid Code compliance

Prepare scheduling plans for import/export activities with internal and external parties

Coordinate with generation companies and NPWP to ensure adequate generation availability.

Data Management & System Utilization

Utilize EMS for Economic Dispatch, Resource Scheduling, Load Forecasting, and Dispatch Training Simulation (DTS)

Collect and analyze data on generation availability, system status, and planned network outages.

Maintain accurate records for study periods and performance evaluation of power plants.

Ensure data quality and integrity for all generation-related activities

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering (Master Qualification Preferred)

Experience:

5+ years experience in transmission utility in the area of Transmission & dispatching activities. Or equivalent experience in Power Plants Operations and Spot Market environments

Special Skills & Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of economic optimization techniques.
  • Skills in security constrained unit commitment software
  • Knowledge about SCADA/EMS systems
  • Understanding of renewable energy integration challenges
  • Reporting and analysis tools/techniques
  • knowledge of Oman Spot Market rules and processes

Business Understanding:

  • Strong understanding of power sector business model
  • Understanding of financial aspects of power trading
