Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in utilization of the principles of site-based planning to develop school model that not only supports the mission, beliefs and goals of Emirates National Schools, but also is the means by which the Primary and/or Secondary school continually re-creates itself toward improving learning for students.
  • Provides leadership in site-based planning for their program level site (KG, Primary, Boys, Girls) to assure their school and departments within the school develops unique, individualized plans to increase individual student achievement, which meets and/or exceeds the academic standards for the appropriate grade levels and individualizes student achievement for those students in advanced categories in congruence with the campus and ENS System Mission Statement.
  • Provides school site leadership in: curriculum implementation; instructional strategy development, implementation and evaluation; assessment design, implementation and evaluation; school improvement based on data analysis: use of best research in instructional practices; and, level instructional and co-curricular program evaluation.
  • Supervises and directs Kindergarten, Primary and or Boys/Girls school vertical curriculum and instruction articulation with multi-grade level teams.
  • Establishes vertical staff articulation meetings with their counterpart head of school to facilitate a seamless delivery of curriculum, student instructional information, and instructional planning with the campus under the direction of the Principal (primary/secondary) and Campus Director.
  • Implements ENS approved curriculum, grade level sequencing, and content standards, emphasizing the continuum that ultimately leads to increased opportunities for accelerated learning experiences for all students in their respective schools.
  • Supervises instructional teaching and learning staff to ensure the delivery of the instructional program.
  • Ensures curriculum implementation, in the classroom, is characterized by classroom teaching that demonstrates academic rigor, is standards based, focuses on the instructional needs of the student, and has formative and summative assessments that assist in directing the instruction practice/strategy that is used in the classroom.
  • Keeps abreast of trends, research, and developments as they relate to their school level from a local and international perspective.
  • (Boys/Girls Head) Directs the implementation of the Exploratory/Elective curriculum of the grades 6 -12 schools to provide a wide range and variety of experiences that engage students in extended learning opportunities and the application of content based skills.
  • (KG/ Primary Head) Provides a wide range and variety of experiences that engage students in extended learning opportunities and the application of content based skill both on and off site.
  • Provides leadership in establishing and articulating the school s mission to students, staff, parents and the ENS community.
  • Provides instructional leadership that encourages teacher creativity and accountability for student achievement.
  • Supervises all school special programs and makes appropriate referrals of students when necessary.
  • Reports to the Primary/Secondary Principal regarding the instructional needs of the school in the areas of personnel, curriculum, administrative operations, textbooks, supplies and equipment etc.
  • Establishes and maintains a dynamic school climate and culture.
  • Supervises the school s guidance and instructional media/library programs to enhance individual student education and development.
  • Coordinates all school sponsored activities.
  • Supervises the school budgeting process and administers the adopted school budget in consultation with the Primary/Secondary School Principal.
  • Assures that the school meets ENS Educational Quality Standards and is accredited by an outside agency as required by the board of directors and is in a continual improvement state.
  • Assures that the policies and procedures of the Board of Directors are adhered to, takes action after consultation with the Principal and Campus Director for situations dealing with violations of policy and provides input on areas for improvement to the School Principal, Campus Director, Director of Schools and the Director General.
  • Oversees the instructional supervision of staff and assures that the reporting requirements of Board Policy and Procedure are met in a timely manner in conjunction with the School Principal.
  • Annually reports to their school community on student academic progress toward meeting standards using a common format and approved assessments and benchmarks for each of their levels.

Management of Staff

  • Directs a differentiated staffing design to attract, maintain, and motivate highly qualified teachers toward the objectives and mission of the school within the Pre K-12 Campus.
  • Creates the Annual Master Schedule implementing the Board Policy/Procedure/Practice on teaching load, annual calendar, teacher qualifications for their site in conjunction with their level counterpart and the School Principal.
  • Annually prepares staffing reports indicating staff utilization and scheduling efficiency.
  • Ensures that appropriate financial, personnel, and operational school handbooks, policies and procedures are developed, updated and maintained in alignment with both the campus and system handbooks, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that professional development and in-service is provided in the schools on system handbooks, policies and procedures at the school and campus.
  • Works with Campus and Central Human Resources Staff to assure that visa s, work permits, personnel records, and approved induction programs are up to date and information is provided to staff on a regular and periodic basis in each of these areas.
  • Conducts regular meetings with all school staff to assure the communication of appropriate information for the schools, campus and system.
  • Provides opportunities for all staff to engage at the school level as leaders, decision-makers, and mentors, and to have them work in the broader community of learners to advance the goals of the school and campus.
  • Measures individual staff performance in the areas of content knowledge, instruction, assessment, and student achievement using system approved tools.
  • Ensures that student learning is optimized through enhanced teacher professionalism in the classroom.
  • Participates in the selection of all staff assigned in to their level and recommends appointments to the School Principal.
