Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
The Head of DT & Engineering will drive the vision, strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of the department, fostering creativity, problem-solving and technical excellence. You will play a key role in shaping a curriculum that prepares pupils to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological world.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strong, visionary leadership for the Design Technology and Engineering Department.
Set ambitious departmental goals, driving innovation and excellence in teaching and learning.
Inspire and support staff through mentoring, appraisal and high-quality professional development.
Design and implement a rigorous, engaging and future-focused DT and Engineering curriculum.
Monitor and evaluate teaching quality to ensure continuous improvement and outstanding outcomes.
Ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across year groups.
Teaching and Learning
Deliver outstanding DT and Engineering teaching across Prep, Senior School and Sixth Form, with some KS2 teaching where required.
Inspire pupils through creative, challenging and relevant lessons that promote innovation and problem-solving.
Integrate emerging technologies and real-world applications, including CAD, metal fabrication and practical engineering processes.
Prepare pupils for success in Pearson Edexcel GCSE DT and BTEC Engineering (Levels 2 and 3).
Use assessment data effectively to track progress and ensure excellent pupil outcomes.
Curriculum, Enrichment and Administration
Support the Head of Faculty with effective budget and resource management.
Lead extracurricular activities such as design clubs, engineering competitions and educational visits.
Develop high-quality, creative subject-specific learning activities.
Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and communicate effectively with parents and school leaders.
Source and manage resources and materials efficiently.
Analyse subject data and implement strategies to improve outcomes across the department.
Regularly review own practice and take responsibility for ongoing professional development.
Desired Candidate Profile

Excellent subject knowledge in Design Technology and Engineering. (E)
At least two years relevant teaching experience.(E)
Experience teaching BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 Engineering.(E)
Strong practical skills including CAD and metal fabrication.(E)
Experience teaching Resistant Materials within DT.(E)
A good Bachelor s degree from a recognised university.(E)
A recognised teaching qualification.(E)
Strong organisational, administrative and communication skills.(E)
Emerging leadership qualities with the ability to command respect.(E)
Ability to stretch the most able while ensuring accessibility for all learners.(E)
Commitment to contributing fully to school life.(E)
Energy, resilience, charisma and a positive, can-do attitude.(E)
Experience working with EAL learners.(D)
Experience in the independent school sector.(D)
Understanding of the international school environment.(D)
