Roles & Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of this role are:

  • Leads the implementation and ongoing adherence to all Wynn Al Marjan Island values, property, and department standards within the wine program, ensuring these are consistently exemplified by the sommelier team.
  • Acts as a key ambassador for the Wynn brand, fostering positive, fair, and ethical relationships with all employees, Wynn contractors, and the broader community, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism.
  • Collaborates closely with the Administrative Wine Team to drive and oversee specific projects, providing strategic input and leadership where required.
  • Champions a culture of safety by enforcing departmental and company safety standards among the sommelier team and ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Maintains and expands professional expertise by pursuing continuing education and advanced training in wine and service, and disseminates this knowledge to the team.
  • Partners with the membership team to identify and maximize wine locker sales and partnership opportunities, leveraging expertise to support business growth.
  • Oversees the curation and communication of the wine list, ensuring comprehensive knowledge of all selections including new additions and seasonal offerings among employees.
  • Delivers expert, personalized wine recommendations for members and guests, drawing on deep knowledge of wine and understanding of individual preferences and dining occasions.
  • Designs and leads private tastings, educational seminars, and exclusive wine events for members, elevating the wine experience and enhancing member engagement.
  • Guides wine locker members in building and managing their personal wine collections, offering tailored advice and support for selections and storage.
  • Works in partnership with the Wine Manager to oversee and maintain comprehensive, accurate records of each wine member s collection, including purchases, consumption trends, and preferences.
  • Ensures strict adherence to company wine service protocols and continuously elevates standards to align with the club s luxury positioning.
  • Leads and attends all required training sessions and pre-shift briefings, ensuring the sommelier team is fully informed of daily priorities, new offerings, and member notes.
  • Performs additional leadership and operational duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the success of the wine program and overall guest satisfaction.
  • Performs any other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Completion of secondary school is required; higher academic credentials in hospitality or wine studies are an asset.
  • Minimum age requirement is 21 years due to regulatory standards and alcohol service laws.
  • Minimum of 3 5 years of sommelier experience in a luxury hotel, fine-dining restaurant, or integrated resort.
  • Certified Sommelier accreditation from a recognized institution (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET) is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of global wine regions, varietals, vintages, and food pairing principles.
  • Proven ability to curate wine lists, manage cellar inventory, and maintain par levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership in training and mentoring junior sommeliers and service staff.
  • Strong understanding of wine storage, handling, and service techniques.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in conducting wine tastings, upselling premium selections, and enhancing guest experience.
  • Proficient in POS systems and handling cash or card transactions.
  • Fluent in English; additional language skills are considered an asset.
  • Flexible with work schedules and able to lead shifts based on business needs.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a passion for wine and hospitality.
  • Performs any additional duties as assigned.
