Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

I. Summary of Position

The Health and Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of health and nutrition activities across supported health centers, stabilization sites, mobile clinics, and outreach programs. The position ensures quality delivery of Primary Health Care (PHC) and emergency nutrition services, supports government health staff, and strengthens community-based health responses in line with national protocols and Action Against Hunger standards.

II. Purpose

The purpose of this role is to ensure effective management of health and nutrition programs through technical support, capacity building, supervision, and close collaboration with government, communities, and partners. The position ensures that services are accessible, accountable, and delivered with quality, while promoting gender equality, protection, and dignity for beneficiaries.

III. Engagement

The Health and Nutrition Supervisor work under the direct supervision of the Health and Nutrition Officer or Program Manager and Field Coordinator and engages closely with project staff, government health authorities, community health workers (CHWs), and humanitarian partners. The role requires active participation in coordination forums, representation of the organization at the local level, and continuous collaboration with beneficiaries and communities.

IV. Essential Job Functions

Objective 1: Team Management

  • Support the project staff in developing planning for health centers, stabilization sites and health posts.
  • Support the field officer in implementing the DIP responses plan developed for each project.
  • Organize regularly monitoring and evaluation meetings/events of team members.
  • Organize training courses on PHC and emergency nutrition responses for project staff.
  • Organize weekly/bi-weekly/monthly meetings with the health facility team and report the outcome to health and nutrition officer, program manager and field coordinator.
  • Keep an updated register of the staff (absences, overtime).
  • Supervise and ensure accuracy of the daily, weekly and monthly reports on health and nutrition team collected from existing health facilities, mobile teams and community workers.
  • Identify problems in the implementation programme and propose solutions in coordination with the health and nutrition officer.
  • In case of a conflict between team members try to mediate and refer to health and nutrition officer and respective district health officer when needed.
  • Ensure that the team interacts in an empathy and interactive & participatory with the beneficiaries and those accompanying them.
  • Ensure good coordination and collaboration with other nutrition team members and support departments.

Objective 2: Support government health staff to manage mobile clinics and nutrition centres

(OTP, TSFP and SC)

  • Make sure that basic health services at mobile clinics/MHNT sites and the nearby health facilities are implemented according to the National protocols.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor s in nutrition, Midwifery, Public Health, Nursing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience in health and nutrition programs in the Somalia context.
  • Knowledge of the local context, including cultural, social, and political dynamics, is advantageous.

Required Skills, Competencies & Attributes:

  • Demonstrated humanitarian experience in medical and nutrition programs (EPHS, CMAM, BEmONC, ICCM).
  • Strong knowledge of MoH, UN, and NGO health systems and structures.
  • Familiarity with Health Information Management Systems.
  • Proven competence in team management, supervision, and training.
  • Excellent reporting, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Fluency in English and Somali (oral and written).
  • Adherence to humanitarian principles and Code of Conduct.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with irregular hours, and in challenging environments.
