Roles & Responsibilities

Main accountabilities:

  • Actively contribute to the design/adaptation of the HPCE strategy / workplan.
  • Lead and follow up on the implementation of the HPCE strategy / workplan, according to the chronogram.
  • Support participatory approaches and regular patient/community consultations before and during implementation of the HPCE strategy.
  • Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF's medical and non-medical staff
  • Support in the design of health education materials and participatory methods, applying the right process (pretesting, validation of content, translation).
  • Contribute to rapid assessments and surveys.
  • Actively support in the systematic collection, encoding and reporting of community feedback and rumours.
  • Support the implementation of community-based surveillance (data collection, active case finding, tracing, linkage to care.
  • Responsible for the planning and organization of community meetings (in collaboration with HPCE Manager).
  • Contribute to the community mapping.
  • Monitoring: Ensure the availability of the data collection tools; the data encoding in the data base and the quality check.
  • Monitoring: Contribute to the analysis of the monitoring data and look for adjustment (in collaboration with HPCE manager), monthly reporting (MMR, sitrep etc.).

Team management:

  • Contribute to evaluation of the HP team (with the HPCE manager).
  • Contribute to the development plan for the HP team.
  • Training: Contribute to the needs assessment, design, and implementation of training for the HP team, in collaboration with the HPCE manager.
  • Organize regular and systematic supervision of the HP activities and provide on the job-coaching.
  • Ensure the planning and practical organisation of the activities for the HP team (HP roster).
  • Ensure the organisation of regular HP team meetings.

Context / Specific accountabilities:

Strategy, Planning, and Monitoring

  • In close collaboration with the HPCE Manager, contribute to the update and implementation of the HP/IEC strategy, ensuring alignment with project priorities.
  • Ensure monitoring of HP activities, results, and achievements through defined indicators.
  • Support the HPCE Manager in conducting assessments and operational research (e.g., focused group discussions - FGDs, surveys etc.) to evaluate the impact of activities and identify constraints, challenges, and strengths to reinforce the link between the communities and the project.
  • Participate in the development and adaptation of IEC materials, ensuring they are culturally appropriate and aligned with project objectives.
  • Plan and coordinate awareness campaigns and events in line with the health calendar and emerging community needs.

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate and network with community stakeholders, CBOs, and representatives from different nationalities, fostering trust and facilitating two-way information flow.
  • Participate in MSF s external communication strategy, ensuring clear, culturally sensitive, and consistent messaging is delivered by volunteers in clinics and community settings.
  • Contribute to maximizing the impact of HP messages through diverse communication channels (digital health promotion, group discussions, leaflets, handouts, social media, etc.).
  • Jointly plan and execute patient-centred and culturally informed community-based activities in collaboration with the Mental health team.

Team management

  • Supervise volunteers in planning and organizing their daily work, ensuring implementation of high-quality HP activities.
  • Provide regular coaching, shadowing, and on-site mentoring, offering constructive feedback to strengthen performance.
  • Lead or support training sessions for volunteers based on identified gaps and program needs.
  • Ensure accurate collection of volunteer activity reports and the timely submission of completed timesheets to the HR department.
  • Conduct regular community visits to monitor volunteer activities and maintain close oversight of community engagement.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Information Flow

  • Ensure accurate reporting of HP activities, achievements, challenges, and community insights to the HP Activities Manager.
  • Collect, analyse, and share with the medical team any relevant information related to the health situation of the population, community dynamics, or emerging concerns.
  • To strive towards maximum impact of the service through a variety of techniques and distribution channels; e.g. digital health promotion, group discussions, leaflets and handouts, social media etc.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education:

  • Essential: Secondary school diploma.
  • Desirable: bachelor diploma in social sciences, social work, behavioral sciences, public health, community health, nursing.

Experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in health promotion activities, or training education activities.
  • Working experience with refugee communities is essential.
  • Experience in managing a team is desirable.

Language:

  • English and Arabic are essential (both written and verbal)
  • Any Sudanese language is desirable

Knowledge:

  • Basic competencies in word and excel are essential.
  • Knowledge of culture and health related aspects of the refugee communities in Cairo, in addition knowledge of the Egyptian culture and health system & migration dynamics.
