A Heavy Forklift Operator is responsible for operating and managing industrial trucks to move materials around a warehouse, storage yard, factory, or similar location. The role is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient handling of goods and materials. They play a critical role in logistics and supply chain operations by ensuring that products are loaded, unloaded, and transported to their intended destinations with precision and care. The operator needs to demonstrate skills in operating different kinds of forklifts, especially those equipped for heavier loads. A successful Heavy Forklift Operator should possess attention to detail, strong hand-eye coordination, and a clear understanding of safety protocols to prevent accident or injury on the job. This role may also involve regular vehicle inspections and maintenance to ensure equipment is in a good working condition and safe to use.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy forklifts to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count materials.
• Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free from damage.
• Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the forklift equipment.
• Perform accurate cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy and integrity.
• Load, unload, and stage products and materials in designated areas.
• Adhere strictly to industry, company, and OSHA safety standards and protocols.
• Coordinate with warehouse management to optimize storage space and order layout.
• Assist in inventory management by recording all goods movements and updates.
• Perform routine pre-operations check to ensure forklifts are functioning properly.
• Ensure proper weight distribution of loads on heavy forklifts to avoid tipping.
• Communicate effectively with other staff to avoid disruption in logistics operations.
• Participate in training and development programs to improve forklift operation skills.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification required.
• Certification from an accredited institution to operate heavy forklifts.
• Minimum of two years experience operating heavy forklifts in a warehouse setting.
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and adherence to safety guidelines.
• Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail for precise operation.
• Ability to perform basic math to assist with inventory and product stacking.
• Strong communication skills for coordination with team members and supervisors.
