Duties & Responsibilities:

• Maintain staff schedules to ensure availability of nursing staff in the hemodialysis unit at all times.
• Develop procedures for patient and equipment preparation in accordance with the regulations, policies and standards of care.
• Devise policies to facilitate pre-dialysis patient assessment including vital signs, vascular access, laboratory results and patient s status before dialysis.
• Comply with CBAHI standards and other regulations.
• Evaluate medical information to determine patients' risk factors such as allergies,
  to ensure the appropriateness of procedures.
• Develop procedures regarding dialysis procedures such as, but not limited to; needle insertion in arteriovenous fistula or grafts for aseptic connection with dialysis equipment.
• Establish protocols & clinical pathways to appropriately respond in case of dialysis-related emergencies such as hypotensive episodes, needle displacement or infiltration and clotting episodes.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of all mandatory alarm tests on the hemodialysis equipment.
• Instruct nursing staff to follow procedures & protocols regarding, but not limited to; management of AV fistula/AV graft, tunneled/non-tunneled catheters, anticoagulation, clotted access, hyperkalemia & blood transfusion.
• Oversees staff in the performance of dialysis, monitors patient response to treatment & report any adverse reactions or complications.
• Ensure the availability of adequate emergency medical supplies required for patient assessment such as ventilators, suction apparatus, crash cart that includes defibrillator and all emergency medications; ECG monitor, pulse oximetry and vital signs monitoring devices.
• Daily Assessment of availability and functionality of all tools and equipment.
• Ensure the department has a documented and implemented safety plan that indicates the periodic inspection, maintenance and calibration of all dialysis equipment.
• Facilitate the adequate supply of personal protective equipment.
• Direct necessary requisitions for the consumed stock items and submit formal documentation to the designated department in case of malfunctioning of equipment and defective instruments in the unit.
• Maintain documentation of equipment inspection and stock refill on regular basis.
• In collaboration with administration, develop the annual budget based on nursing department using variance analysis; analyze financial information monthly; complete & submit reports with appropriate recommendations.
• Assessment for supplies, equipment and physical facilities for budget planning.
• Develop procedures to facilitate the disposal of infectious wastes in accordance with hospital s waste disposal policies.
• Direct proper sterilization of equipment in specified conditions as per instructions of infection control.
• Educate staff to follow certain protocols for resuscitation, bleeding, infection or other emergency situations.
• Supervision of competency assessment for the nursing staff (e.g. written test) along with complete documentation.
• Ensure appropriate implementation of infection control programs for prevention of epidemiologically significant healthcare associated infections.

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

• Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree.
• Master Degree is Preferred.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support Qualification; PALS is highly preferred as well.
• Current Registration in the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties or at least Dataflow is done.
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the Hemodialysis Unit.
• ESRD extensive training with high competencies.
